Diaper Bag and Hospital Bag Questions

I had another post planned for today but Blogger does not want to cooperate!! Ahhhhhh!

So instead I have a questions for you moms out there...

1. When you had a newborn/infant did you carry a purse and diaper bag or just a diaper bag?

2. If you only carried one bag- did you put all your stuff (like wallet, lip gloss, etc) into a small bag in your diaper bag or just put it in loose?

3. What exactly should I/will I pack in my diaper bag? Are there any helpful hints you have for packing a diaper bag so I don't bring everything with me?

4. Do I bring my diaper bag to the hospital with me when I deliver or just pack stuff for the baby in my bag?

5.  What exactly should I pack in my hospital bag?  What type of clothes will I want to wear post labor?

6. Should I bring all my make up, hair dryer, etc?

If there is anything else I have forgotten that you want to add any advice would be appreciated!!

Thanks!

Baby Shower Recap

Happy Monday!

I had such an amazing baby shower this weekend! I cannot even begin to thank my family and friends for their generosity. Baby Boy H and I were completely spoiled! Not only was my baby registry pretty much taken care of but I received so many more wonderful surprises.

I am a huge breakfast food fan so my shower was a brunch.  They made sure to have my favorite Cinnabon cinnamon rolls and Carlson's glazed donuts - needless to say Baby Boy and I have been on a sugar high all weekend.
My sister, mom, and grandma did an amazing job pulling all the details together for Baby Boy H.  My mom kept commenting about how this was her first "blue" party so it was fun to use a different color than pink :)

I am waiting to get more pictures from my sister but here is a snippet of the day.

 The balloon over my chair- I love giraffes!

  Sleep is ok.  I've started having really vivid dreams about having the baby! In one dream I had him and they brought him to me dressed and in a car seat and told me his name was Mark. That's not even a name on our short list but I apparently didn't care!
 I think some anxiety might be setting in.:) Still getting up between 3am-5am to use the bathroom

Best Moment of the Week:
I've started going to 2 week appointments and I seem to be measuring a little ahead- I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing.  All it makes me think is that I'm having a 10lb baby

Miss Anything:
  Just the usual: pre-baby body and an alcoholic beverage on a Friday night would be nice

Movement:
Yes his movements are more big movements and the doctor told me she thinks it's his back that keeps poking out on me

Food Cravings:
Still craving sweets this week- I've been so bad lately!

Symptoms:
  Swollen feet- ugh. After a long walk or if I've been on my feet all day they will be swollen. It's mostly my left one. So I try to elevate and ice it if I can and it's usually back down by the morning

Anything making your queasy or sick:
Not this week

Have you started to show yet:
Yes

Gender:
Boy!

Nope

Feeling Grateful

As I sat there last night watching the extensive coverage on the bombings at the Boston Marathon I couldn't help but start to feel grateful that I was lucky enough to be sitting safe in my house.  Not just safe in my house but safe in my house with my husband, puppy, and growing baby boy in my belly.
It's time like these that I realize that I need to take more time every day to step back and say Thank You to God and really appreciate all the wonderful blessings I have in my life.   You life can change in an instant and you never really know when it could happen.

As a runner and someone who has completed a marathon I cannot even imagine what would go through someone's head to bomb the finish line.  A marathon is such a hard thing to accomplish that people spend months and years training for.  The feeling of having that moment when you finish taken away from you just makes me sick.

So all my prayers and thoughts go out to Boston, the victims, the runners, and all the runners around the world because I hope that this incident won't ruin the running community and future events like this one.

It hasn't actually been that bad this week, or I'm just used to it sucking. I've started to get up again  between 3am-5am to use the bathroom

My pre-baby body!! I just want to wear my summer clothes.  I'm still dying for a summer beer- every time I see or hear a commerical my mouth starts to water.  I'm not even a huge beer drinker so I'm not sure why this keeps happening

Movement:
Yes his movements are more big movements and I'm pretty sure I saw a hand moving across my stomach last night- it was pretty crazy

Happy or Moody?:
Happy- I can't believe how fast this is all going!

Looking forward to:
 Working on the nursery some more- hoping to have pics to share soon

Life Lately

Happy Tuesday!  I don't know about you all but with a forecast of 80 degrees in April and a settlement with my favorite seller today it's gearing up to be a really good Tuesday.

This past weekend was a packed but fun weekend.  Friday night I had a Junior League Gala and rocked a pre-pregnancy dress!! It's the little things that excite me these days.
This was actually a bridesmaid dress for my friend Kate's wedding 2 years ago- so you can wear bridesmaid dresses again and it's a bonus if the first time you wore it you weren't pregnant.

Since the weather has warmed up we have been doing a lot of walking around these parts.   It's been good for all of us, it gets me and Kyle moving and it wears out Layla which is usually the intention of the walks.

We spent Saturday walking around downtown Annapolis.  I forget all the time how lucky I am to live so close to the water.  We decided we need to take more advantage of it this summer.

We stopped by Paws Pet Boutique to pick up a new summer collar for Layla. If you're local I totally suggest visiting them- they are so nice and friendly and have a huge selection of collars and leashes for dogs.   I really wanted to get the matching leash but Kyle refuses to let her be too girly.

Sunday we ventured into DC with some out of town friends to see the Cherry Blossoms.  The weather man was wrong and I believe the highest it got to was maybe 63 degrees and it was super windy!  There was really only one tree with a few blooms on it but it was still fun to play tourist for a little while.

 For the record it's impossible to get Kyle to dress up on the weekends. I gave up years ago.

 I've been meaning to share this with you for awhile but here is an updated shot of our family room with the white fireplace!   The room still has a long way to go and I have 100 ideas floating through my head but even just the paint changes made a huge difference.

After:
Ignore the ugly fireplace screen- we need a new one but can't more that one or Layla will roll around in the ashes.

Now here is the before so you can compare:

Hope you all have a good Tuesday and are enjoying warm weather!

In Honor of Lilly Pulitzer

Over the weekend Lilly Pulitzer passed away at the age of 81.  Whether or not you were a fan of her bright palm beach chic dresses you could probably recognize a Lilly dress from a mile away with their bright colors and fun patterns.
I am sadden by the news but know that the Lilly name will continue on with more great patterns and designs for years to come.   You can read more about Lilly Pulitzer's life here.

Here are some Lilly items that I would love to add to my closet this summer, post baby:

{Sloane Dress}

{Elsa Top}

{Pearl Dress}

{ Murfee Scarf in Spike the Punch}

{Adeline Dress in Seersucker}

{Mckim Sandal}

And if you have little girls in your life I love these...

 {Baby Linney Dress}
{Mini Henley Dress}

 {Little Helena Sweater Dress}

Baby Registry: Part 2

I'm back today with a few more items that we have on our baby registry.   Again most of these items come recommended to me by family, friends, and fellow bloggers.

Everyone of my friends swears by their swing. The swear it is a life saver and their babies loved just sitting in my rocking back and forth watching what was going on.   I knew that I would definitely be adding one to my registry and the Fisher Price Cradle n Swing is the one that everyone suggested. I opted for the My Little Lamb edition because of the simple light colors so it will hopefully blend it better with my family room furniture.

My SIL swears by the bouncer for her kids when they are newborns.  She even said that both of them slept it in at one point or another at night because it was the only thing that would work.  I obviously don't know if this will work for the little guy but I'm up for trying any soothing techniques in the beginning.   I went with the My Little Lamb edition to match the swing that I registered for and because again the FP brand comes highly recommended.

This is another product that comes highly recommended to me.  I have heard mixed reviews from people about the Bumbo seat but I believe that if used properly (ie once baby can hold up their head) then it can be the perfect little seat.  My SIL used to sit my 5 month old niece by us at the pool so she could see all the action without being in or near the water.

This is one of those products that totally slipped my mine when I was first working on my registry.  It was after having lunch with one of my pregnant friends that I realized oh my gosh I'm going to need somewhere to put dirty diapers! Let's be honest no one wants those in a regular trash can.   My friend had tried numerous diaper trash cans with her 9 month old and said that this was hands down the best one, so it immediately when on my registry.

Did any of you use these with your babies?  Good, bad, any advice?  Any other pregnant girls register for these items?

I love hearing all your recommendations!
