Goodbye 2015, Hello 2016!

I know everyone is saying this but I just cannot believe 2015 is over and I'm looking 2016 in the face. The last couple of years have been so fun and so crazy for us with babies and new houses that I'm calling 2016 the year of contentment.  While we will be doing some fun vacations and home renovations I feel content with where we are in life and don't need to add any major craziness to it :)

I want to give a big Thank You to everyone of you that stops by my little space of the internet whether it be my blog, Instagram, or Twitter.  I really truly appreciate all of you.  I'm hoping that feeling more settled in 2016 will allow me to connect with all of you more than I have this year and catch up on your blogs and life.

We are having a low key NYE party with some neighbors and their kids.  I'm looking forward to fun a no pressure night.  I have a feeling we won't make it much past 9pm but it will still be a blast.

Wishing you and yours a Happy Happy New Year!

PS- Thoughts for Thursday will be back in action next week!

PSS- There are rumors swirling around about the Lilly Pulitzer After Party sale starting this Monday January 4th so I will be back tomorrow or Saturday with more details just in case.

Thoughts for Thursday: My Christmas List

Happy Thursday!  Can you believe we are only a week away from Christmas eve?!  I'm feeling a lot more panic than excitement this year and I'm really trying to slow myself down and enjoy this season but I'm not sure it's gonna happen.    I love this time of year but it's so.damn.busy.  In reality Kyle and I really don't give each other many gifts.  We would rather save the money for house projects or for the boys but since I since we still do a few small things I thought I would compile my list. Just in case Santa needs a few extra ideas ;)

Natalie's Christmas List

1. L.L.Bean Wicked Good Moccasins-  I've had these slippers on my wishlist forever so I'm really hoping Santa brings them to me.  They just look so warm and comfy!

2. Yeti coffee mug- Everyone raves about this mug! Running around with two kids I know this mug would keep my coffee warm and toddler spill proof.

3. J.Crew Chateau Parka- I have this thing for coats and this one is my current love.   I'm not sure I'm getting one for Christmas but finger crossed I am.  I'm in major need of a cute heavy winter coat.

4. Kate Spade Monteray Watch- I've had the same Michael Kors watch for years and I think it's time for a change up.

5. Zella Live in Leggings- Since I basically live in tunics and leggings I don't think I can ever have too many pairs of these.  Seriously the best leggings ever.

6. Longchamp Le Pliage Expandable Travel Bag- I'm a huge Longchamp fan and have more bags than I care to count.  I have the weekender bag which I love but this expandable one with the long strap is on my wishlist for traveling.  I love that they're so light and easy to clean.

7. Kendra Scott Rayne Necklace- I want to add the pink Rayne necklace to my collection.  Since I wear so much black and gray in the winter I need a fun color to brighten everything up

8. Lucky Brand Heliosse Boots- As you know I've been looking for new boots since my beloved Banana Republic ones are really on their last leg.  I saw these Lucky Brand ones on Nordstrom the other day and fell in love. Also they are on major sale which helps a lot.  I'm hoping Santa gets the hint with all the emails I've been sending ;)

9. Frame Le Skinny Jeans- I really want some ankle length skinny jeans.  I love the color of these and the reviews are great.  Since temps here are staying in the 50s and 60s lately I need something that pairs better with flats and some of my booties.

10. A New Kitchen- This is on my one day list but I did ask Santa if we could start calling contractors to get a quote and we should hopefully be meeting with some in the next few weeks!  We actually have major construction plans for this house and I'm so excited to share them with you all as we proceed but for real is there anyway Santa could just plop that kitchen into my house in one day and there be no mess and no stress ;)

What did you all ask Santa for?

Just a reminder we will not be doing Thoughts for Thursday next week on Christmas Eve! We hope you all have a happy holiday with your families!

Stocking Stuffers for the Boys

When it comes to stockings around our house we try to keep things practical.  Since we get the boys fun gifts from us and Santa I try to get them the things they need in their stocking.  The boys are so close in age stockings were pretty easy this year and the pretty much got the same things only in different colors ;)

Stocking Stuffers for the Boys

1. Skip Hop Utensil Set - We need new utensils and I thought these were so cute.  Miller is really into sharks right now so we got him the shark ones and Matthew loves dogs so he got the dog set.  They come in some many cute animal designs for boys and girls they're worth checking out.

2. Crayola Bath Crayons-  I've heard great things about these bath crayons and knew Miller would love them. He's really into coloring right now and being allowed to color in the bathtub will probably make his day!

3. Munchkin bath toys-  all our bath toys are on their last leg and ready to be thrown out so I bought these Munchkin sea squirt ones. I love Munchkin bath products and I know the boys will love these. Munchkin products do a better job staying clean and not slimy like some cheaper bath toys we've had.

4. Jellycat stuffed animals- My boys loved stuffed animals and each sleep with 2-5 a night.   We were out shopping over the weekend for my nieces and nephews when we spotted this shark and raccoon and knew they would be perfect for the boys.  Miller's stuffed animal collection is getting out of control but I love how much he loves stuffed animals.   Check local boutiques for Jellycat stuffed animals but if buying online Diapers.com is my favorite place for a big variety.

5. Orajel training toothpaste and toothbrush-  Miller is due for a new toothbrush and we haven't bought one for Matthew yet so I knew these would be perfect stocking stuffers.   Miller HATES brushing his teeth right now so I'm hoping a new Thomas the train toothbrush will help with this daily chore.  Anyone else struggle with toddler toothbrushing?

6. Pottery Barn Kids Mackenzie water bottle-  I've  heard so many good things about these from fellow moms and friends that I finally bought each of the boy one when they were on sale last week.  I'm hoping they live up to the hype of being the best and not leaking!  I know the boys will love the cars/planes/trains/construction trucks so they won't care either way ;)

What do you put in your kids stockings?  Do you do practical or fun gifts?

Holiday Party Styling: Five Looks

One of my favorite parts about big events is figuring out how I'm going to style my outfits. Once I've picked out my clothes obsessing over the shoes and accessories is my favorite.  I tend to keep my jewelry pretty simple and have staple pieces I work with but shoes and bags are always fun to play with!

I pulled together some really fun looks for some events I have coming up through the rest of December.

Look 1:  I have this Loft scallop lace dress on it's way to me and I'm hoping it's as good in person as it is online.   I've put together two looks for this. The classic and the fun look. I think this dress could really go either way so I thought it would be fun to see what you could pair it with. How fun would the red pumps be with an animal print clutch?

Holiday Look 1

Look 2:   This is a more casual look that I would wear to Christmas eve or Christmas day dinner. It could work for an at work Christmas party too!  You can really dress this look up or down based on accessories you choose. Just swap out the booties for some pumps and you've got a whole new look.

Holiday Look 2

Look 3: Here is another cocktail party look that would be great for a holiday party or New Year's Eve!   This Skater bow back dress was on my post from Monday and it arrived on Thursday to me- it is so cute on and I love the material.  It looks like it's sold out but I've linked similar ones below.   It's still a contender for my holiday parties and here is how I would style this one.

Holiday Look 3

Skater bow back dress (sold out similar here, here, here)// Tear drop cluster earrings// gold heels// gold clutch

Look 4:  This is another casual look perfect for a holiday dinner with friends or cookie exchange (my favorite kind of holiday party!).   I love love love these studded cat Charlotte Olympia flats!  They are out of my price range but oh so fun!

Holiday Look 4

Look 5:  My last look is another classic cocktail party look.   I love the look of this sheath dress.  It is sexy yet long enough that you could wear it to your office party or a party at your boss' house.   One day I need to add those Stuart Weitzman Nudist heels to my collection.  I feel like that look would never go out of style.

Holiday Look 5

Dress// Teardrop earrings// Bracelet// Heels// Clutch

Do you enjoy styling outfits for the big events like holiday parties or weddings?  Are you an accessories person?  Do you like to keep outfits classic or bold?

Friday Things: Instagram, Pineapples, and Meeting Santa Again

TGIF Everyone!  Just popping in today to share some things we are loving this week.

1. Instagram Husbands-  Have you all seen this video? Dyingggggg!!! For any blogger or instagrammer you have to admit you've done this to your husband

2. Gingerbread Train-  In true boy fashion when we went to Target to pick out a gingerbread house kit Miller insisted on the train so I bought it.  It has a horrible review online but I figured even if it falls apart it will be a fun activity for us.  Has anyone else tried this?

 3. Front Back Earrings-  (I think that's what they're called right?!)  I got my first pair this week and I'm obsessed!  I got these from Loft below and I'm thinking off adding the fireball ones from there to my collection too.  I have a feeling these are going to be my new favorite.

4. Pineapple Tumbler-  Have you all seen this?  I've seen it floating around the internet and I kind of love it.  I have antique gold pineapple candle holders and this tumbler when not in use could be a great decor piece. Could your cocktail look any better than in a pineapple tumbler?  I could pretend I'm on a tropical island instead of freezing in the burbs with  my kids this winter ;)

5. Santa Trip Round 2- Well this Santa trip didn't go much better than the first one but this time around I was able to drag Miller onto Santa's lap with me. Santa told me I have the patience of a Saint, so I'm assuming I'm on the nice list this year ;)

Planning their escape route...

Hope you have a great weekend friends!  See you Monday- I have a fun giveaway planned for next week!

Thoughts for Thursday: Life Lately

Hi Friends!  How is everyone's week going?   I'm sorry I've been MIA this week.  I had high hopes for some fun posts this week but on Monday I came down with some awful cold meets stomach flu virus and was down and out.   I was so bad Monday I had to have Kyle come home from work to take care of the kids because I felt that awful.  I haven't felt that bad in years.  I didn't even feel that bad after both c-sections.  Thankfully it was over rather quickly by Tuesday night/Wednesday morning I was back to myself.   The only plus side to it: I lost 4lbs ;)

I feel like I have so much to cram into the next two weeks, anyone else?  This is the first year we have really done it up for Christmas!   Last year we had a newborn and the year before our kitchen renovation was scheduled for the week after Christmas so I'm happy we have nothing crazy going on and can really just enjoy the season.   Since this house is bigger I feel like I've been starting from scratch with my Christmas decor but that's ok I'm secretly loving it.  Shhh I'm pretty sure Kyle is not loving all the $$ I'm spending.  We have two trees this year.  One is the fun ornament kid tree and the other is my fancy glass ornament no kids allowed to touch tree ;) I get the best of both worlds.  I'm hoping to give you all a little Christmas tour next week.

The boys have been so much fun lately!  Matthew is turning into a toddler and Miller is into imagination games and the three of us have just been having the best time.  While Miller still considers Matthew a baby and gets frustrated if he doesn't play the right way those rare moments when they do play together are so sweet.

As per usual I've been doing some shopping...  I went into Loft and just could not resist this faux fur vest.  I'm still not sure if it's me or not but I'm kind of in love with it and I kind of love that it's black.  I'm a blonde we look best in black or navy (this is is why 95% of my closet is dark) also this vest is perfect for tall girls!! I've tried on so many vests that are too short and look awkward or a size to small and this one is the perfect length.

Thoughts?!

It's definitely a tall girls vest because I got the XS/S and it's still slightly oversized on me.  They have a brown color too that I'm kind of loving but the black was just calling my name.

I also picked up this shirt and this side slit tunic below.  Both I'm equally obsessed with.

Love this tee!  It is a looser fit and it's nice and long so I can wear it with skinny jeans easily.  I would say it runs big.  I got a small.

This sweater is so comfortable! The material is so so soft.  I'm really hoping it washes and wears well.  It's oversized- I got a small but it's nice and long in the front and back so I can wear it with leggings.  The side slit is high but I didn't think it was awful because I'll probably wear a tank or cami under it regardless.

For all my mom friends that could use a laugh on this Thursday: All the Wines That Pair Best with Your Child's Crappy Behavior.
This explains why I love Sauvignon Blanc so much these days!

Hope you all are having a good week and getting your xmas shopping finished up and enjoying the holiday!

The Cocktail Dress

Ladies, let's discuss a first world problem giving me major anxiety this holiday season.

The cocktail dress.

Apparently after having kids nothing goes back to the same place and some parts get smaller while others get bigger.  (and let me tell you the parts that got bigger are not ones I wanted to...)

So I feel like I'm starting from scratch here and I have no idea what is going to look good and what I'm going to like on myself.    I'm lucky that most of my holiday events aren't until closer to Christmas but I'm still getting down to the wire here.

I narrowed down some of my favorites that I'm hoping will work for multiple parties:

The cocktail dress

I think my top two choices are the Soprano skater dress and the Loft scallop lace dress.  I still haven't decided if I want sleeves vs sleeveless.  Since one of the parties is at Kyle's boss' house I will probably opt for a more conservative dress for that one which is why I have that DVF dress in red on here.  I think red could be so much fun but they also have hot pink and navy that I love too.   I'm just not sure I want to splurge on that for only one wear but I also think it's a dress I will keep for years.

I picked up that Target Xhilaration fit and flare dress today and I'm not sure the gold will work with my skin but it's so much cuter than I expected and currently on sale for $19 which is a steal.
I tried last year's BB Dakota sequin dress on but still had too much baby weight to lose which is why I added it back to my list this year, both that and the Adrianna Papell are at my local Nordstrom so I'm going to give them a try this week.

I'm finally getting my hair highlighted this weekend and I've busted out my favorite St. Tropez sunless tanner to get ready!

Wish me luck!  Do you have any of these dresses above?  Do you have a go to black dress that you love?  Are you holiday party ready this year?

Thoughts for Thursday: Life Lately

So sorry we dropped the ball on you all this morning!!  Can I blame my kids and the fact that we've had a virus, followed by a chest cold, and then a stomach bug and now another cold?!! I mean Hello germs!?  Where is summer??

We've been stuck inside the past few weeks dealing with all our sickness but to be honest it's kind of been fun just laying around watching movies and playing all day.   I feel like this time of year can get so stressful and I have remind myself to soak it all up and enjoy my days when my babies are small.

Miller is very interested in me taking his photo right now but it has to be a selfie so he can see himself and then he likes to pick out which one looks best :)

Matthew is non-stop crawling, walking, and climbing stairs.  I forgot how hard this age can be, I never sit still anymore.

We went and picked up our Christmas tree, nothing fancy like cutting it down ourselves but we still tried to make it fun for the kids.  I loved picking out the tree when we were little and I hope my kids will enjoy the tradition too.

Everything was going great until it was time to put the tree on the car.  Then the random 2 year old melt down ensued because he didn't want the tree on the car.  "no tree on car, no mom, no tree on car"

He cried the entire way home and didn't stop until it was inside and he could decorate it.  #toddlers

And this is how toddlers decorate...

I picked up this sleep sweatshirt from Target last week and I'm obsessed! I linked to it on my instagram on Monday and you could only buy it in stores then but now you can buy it online!!  I've provided the link below, it's only $10.50 so you don't want to miss this one!

This outfit has been on repeat the last few weeks.  Since we've been mostly stuck inside battling colds it's been easy to throw on and still feel remotely human and looking cute :)

My first Black Friday purchase showed up this week and I'm obsessed!  I wrote about wanting a brown leather bag for the fall back in July and this one was on my list.  When I saw it marked down to $402 with 30% off I knew I had to snag it and I'm so glad I did.  It's even better in person and I now know why every blogger I know has one.   It's sold out now in the Tiger's eye color but I love the black and red.

Kyle and I did a sunday funday afternoon date and it was so much fun.  I'm thinking we might make afternoon dates our new tradition.

Hope everyone's December is going well and you're all enjoying the holiday festivities!

Gifts for a Toddler Boy that are Not Trucks

Since I am the mom to two boys we have SO.MANY.TRUCKS.   I seriously think we have over 100 trucks, cars, trains, construction vehicles, etc. in this house.  I love that my boys love trucks but this Christmas I decided that I really wanted to try to buy them gifts that were not trucks.  Kyle on the other hand thinks they need at least one truck but I think we can make it a great Christmas without any trucks ;)

I broke it down into Miller's Christmas List (2 year old approved gifts) and Matthew's Christmas List (1 year old approved gifts.)

Miller's Christmas List

1. Click n Play Cutting Fruit- Miller is really into pretend play right now and spent a good 20 minutes cutting fruit for me when we were visiting his cousins last week.  So this immediately went onto his Amazon wishli

2. Mr. Potato Head-  I loved Mr. Potato Head when I was little and I think Miller might finally be at the age to really get it so I'm excited to get him one.

3. Pretend and Play Cash Register-  He's been wanting a cash register for awhile and always plays with our good friends when we're at their house but I've been hesitating since Matthew still puts everything in his mouth. This one is great though and comes with play money and credit cards.

4. Lego Duplo My First Box of Fun-  We love Duplo's and I don't think you can ever have enough of them.  Miller loves to build houses and ships and beaches with them.  I love watching his imagination run wild.

5. Learning Resources Jumbo Jungle Animals- We have a few play animals but Miller's been requesting more so I thought it would be fun to add some jungle animals to our set.  I've never tried this brand but the reviews are so good I thought I would give them a try.

6. Potty Book-  We have just started to navigate the world of potty training so I figured a book might help and this one came highly recommended as easy for a 2.5 yr old to understand.

7. Baby Boy Doll Blue-  I've wanted to get Miller a doll for awhile now since he's into the pretend play and really interested in babies.  This one is plush and soft so it can't double as a weapon ;) and I thought it would be perfect for him to play with.  I'm still researching so if anyone has any suggestions for dolls for little boys I would love to hear about them.

8. My First Umbrella Stroller-  The baby will obviously need somewhere to hang out and get pushed around so I thought this stroller would be perfect.

9.  Play-Doh Fun Factory Deluxe-  Play-doh is one of Miller's favorite activities and this set looks like the perfect addition to our growing collection.

10. Where Do Diggers Sleep at Night? Book- I've been eyeing this book for a few months now and knew it would be perfect for Christmas.  As I've mentioned we love trucks around here so I know Miller will be so excited for this book.

11. Tot Tutors Kids Play Table and Chairs-  We need a kids table in our basement playroom and I thought this one would be perfect.  I love the bright colors and the size is perfect for both of the boys.  Plus I would love a designated space for Miller to do his arts and crafts.

12. Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket-  Miller needs this year's version of the jacket and we decided to add this one to the list.   These are my absolute favorite jackets for baby's and toddlers and according to the car seat blog they are car seat approved!

Next we have Matthew's list:

Matthew's christmas list

1. Fisher Price Baby's First Blocks-  We never had one of these for Miller but Matthew loves putting things into boxes and taking them out.  I thought these blocks would be perfect for him and would help improve his fine motor skills.

2. Melissa and Doug Road Map Rug-  This is really a gift for both of them but since Matthew is already obsessed with trucks like this brother and loves drive them along the floor I knew I wanted to get them a floor rug with a road on it.  I think this M&D one is the front runner right now but I have heard Ikea has a good one too. The idea of going into an Ikea makes my skin crawl though... any one have any advice on this one?

3. Fisher Price See and Say Farmer Says-  Did anyone else have this as a kid?  I know I did and I loved it.  I think both the boys will love this one and will help Matthew with his animal sounds.

4. Learning Resources Jumbo Zoo Animals-  I decided Matthew needed some animals like Miller's above and thought the zoo ones would go well with the jungle ones.  I know both the boys will love playing with these.

5. Step 2 Canyon Road Train and Track Table-  Matthew loves pushing trucks and trains around but he is always looking for a hard surface to do it.  We have a train table in our basement but I've been looking for a smaller table for our family room since we keep toys in there too and I think this will be perfect.

6. Knight's Castle Pop Up Play Tent- Matthew loves playing inside of things. I know that sounds weird but he loves playing under our kiddie table in the family room and he loves climbing in the bookshelves to play so we thought this castle would be fun for him.  I wanted something portable and lightweight so that we could move it from room to room if we needed to.

7. Wooden Bead Maze Game- These are such great toys for one year olds.  They can keep them busy forever and help them work on fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination.  Miller always loved these so I know Matthew will too.

8. Who's There, Spot?- We are big fans of the Spot books over here so I'm always looking to add one to the collection.

9. My Big Word Book- Miller has a few of these books that we keep in his room and since he doesn't like sharing with "the baby" I figured we would get another one to keep in the playroom so I can start working on words with Matthew and it's good for Miller too since we're still working on words with him too.

10. Maxi Coxi Pria 70-  So we bought Matthew a Graco Size4Me on sale on Labor Day weekend and he hates it! I mean every single car ride is miserable and we are in and out of the car a lot.   Miller loves his Maxi Cosi so I've decided that we just need to spring for it and get another one for Matthew.

11. Little Tikes Gas and Go Mower-   We have one of these for Miller and the fights have already started over who gets to play with it when so I've decided we just need to add another one to our collection.  The boys love them and love helping Dad mow the grass all the time.

What's on your kids Christmas gifts this year?  Do you have truck loving boys like me?

Black Friday Sales: J.Crew, Old Navy, and my Favorite Booties

So apparently Black Friday now takes place all week and online too :)  For me this is a win because I was never one of those wait in line at 5:00am for a sale type of people, so if I can shop from my house with a big cup of coffee or a big glass of wine then I'm a happy camper!

I know everyone is bombarding you with all the sales this week but I've rounded up some of my favorites from my favorite places to share with you.

J.Crew is offering 40% off most everything with 30% off items that are never on sale such as that cashmere scarf below!!  Use the code Holiday

J.Crew Black Friday

Then my favorite go-to right now Old Navy is offering 60%, 50% or 40% off all items! There are some new arrivals I've been drooling over and right now would be a great time to snatch them up.

Old Navy Black Friday

This is a sale you do not want to miss!! One of favorite booties, the Rag & Bone Newbury bootie, are on major sale!!

They retail for $525 but are on sale for $250 and with the code BF25 you can get them down to $187!  I've bought all my R&B booties on sale and they are so worth it.

Don't forget the Shopbop sale and J.Crew Factory sale I linked to on Tuesday here

Are you shopping any Black Friday sales?  Do you go to the stores early or are you avoiding the chaos and shopping online?
