The Cocktail Dress

Ladies, let's discuss a first world problem giving me major anxiety this holiday season.

The cocktail dress.

Apparently after having kids nothing goes back to the same place and some parts get smaller while others get bigger.  (and let me tell you the parts that got bigger are not ones I wanted to...)

So I feel like I'm starting from scratch here and I have no idea what is going to look good and what I'm going to like on myself.    I'm lucky that most of my holiday events aren't until closer to Christmas but I'm still getting down to the wire here.

I narrowed down some of my favorites that I'm hoping will work for multiple parties:

The cocktail dress

I think my top two choices are the Soprano skater dress and the Loft scallop lace dress.  I still haven't decided if I want sleeves vs sleeveless.  Since one of the parties is at Kyle's boss' house I will probably opt for a more conservative dress for that one which is why I have that DVF dress in red on here.  I think red could be so much fun but they also have hot pink and navy that I love too.   I'm just not sure I want to splurge on that for only one wear but I also think it's a dress I will keep for years.

I picked up that Target Xhilaration fit and flare dress today and I'm not sure the gold will work with my skin but it's so much cuter than I expected and currently on sale for $19 which is a steal.
I tried last year's BB Dakota sequin dress on but still had too much baby weight to lose which is why I added it back to my list this year, both that and the Adrianna Papell are at my local Nordstrom so I'm going to give them a try this week.

I'm finally getting my hair highlighted this weekend and I've busted out my favorite St. Tropez sunless tanner to get ready!

Wish me luck!  Do you have any of these dresses above?  Do you have a go to black dress that you love?  Are you holiday party ready this year?

  1. I was out shopping this weekend for a new holiday dress, as well. And I think I tried on that gold glitter dress (or one similar), but something about the fit didn't look right on me. I think it's all about going and trying things on since it might look great online but when you try it on, it does/doesn't work, or vice versa. Love the scalloped dress from Loft!

  2. So I love the DVF dress and ordered it a few years ago but ended up returning it bc it's very sexy. Nothing wrong with that but I just wasn't comfortable wearing it. I also ordered a few sizes bigger than I normally wear and it was still really tight. I wanted it to be more sheath. That's just my opinion on it! If I were you I would order the navy in it and that way you can wear it to more events. It's a gorgeous dress and its very timeless!

  3. Love these dresses! You can never go wrong with the tried and true LBD. I have one similar to the WAYF V neck dress, which is fun to dress up with a statement necklace. Unfortunately, we don't have any fancy Christmas cocktail parties this year :/ I love dressing up, so maybe we'll just go on a fancy date so I have an excuse!

  4. Love that dress from target! I have several LBD in my closet because it's what I tend to buy around Christmas time! I'm looking for a red for change! Great choices!

  5. I was shocked at how many cute things I saw at Target. I ordered a cute dress from Ann Taylor but it came in and the fit was way weird. Cant' wait to see what you decide on.
