February Wish List

**Thank you to everyone for all your sweet comments on yesterday's post!!**

February not only brings Valentine's Day but also my Birthday!  Since we usually combine these two holidays into one I think I deserve some special treats- right?!

Here is what I currently have my eye on:

I really want a cute pair of flats to bring me into the spring and these look perfect.  The snake skin gives them something a little extra too

I really need want a new spring/summer bag this year.  Since I'm always lugging a ton of stuff in my purse and for work I need a big sturdy tote to hold it all. Plus this could possibly double as a diaper bag this summer

Layla ruined our last white comforter so right now we just have a cheapy down comforter on our bed but it despeartely needs a duvet.  Now that we have a puppy I think a duvet is necessary so I can take it off and wash it or bleach it as needed.  I'm a sucker for white bedding and this one has some dimension that might hid some dirt

I'm pretty sure I've shared these before on here but I am in desperate need  of some new sunglasses.  I love my RayBan Wayfayers but I'm looking for something new with a similar style and these would be perfect

I'm obsessed with this cardigan! Since getting pregnant I've been wearing a lot of shirts and leggings with over sized sweaters.  I think this cardigan would be a perfect addition to my wardrobe and I could easily wear it when I'm not pregnant.

It's a....

A very, very active and according to the sonogram tech quite tall baby BOY!!  We are so, so excited and just knowing he's a boy has made this whole experience that much more real.

I had a feeling since about week 6 that it was a boy and I was right! I have to say I'm happy that my mother’s intuition has already kicked in  :)

We didn’t have a gender reveal party but we did have a little celebration dinner with my parents, my sister and her husband.

(Please excuse my Friday after work make up worn off look)

(it's hard for us to get a good pic together)

My Dad bought these remote control Humvees about 2 weeks ago because he saw them on sale and just knew it was a boy...
One for him and one for Baby Boy- he's quite happy to finally have a boy to play with after living with all girls his whole life.

Thank you for all your guesses and well wishes- it turns out most of the Old Wives Tales were wrong for me!

Boy or Girl? Old Wives Tales

Ever since I got the positive pregnancy test I've been hearing about or reading about all the old wives takes to tell the sex of the baby. As someone who has no patience and is excited to find out I had to try every test.
Since it's only one week until we find out I thought it would be fun to share and get your prediction!

Chinese Gender Predictor
According to Baby Center, legend says that the gender chart is more than 700 years old and was discovered in a royal tomb. It predicts your baby's sex based on your Chinese lunar age at the time you got pregnant and the Chinese lunar month in which you conceived. (I used the one on baby center but you can find them on a couple different websites)

Prediction: BOY

Fetal Heart Rate
This one says if your unborn baby's heart rate is higher, above 140 beats per minute, that means you're carrying a girl. A lower heart rate below 140 bpm means you're having a boy.

Prediction: GIRL
At 10 weeks- 175 beats per min
At 12 weeks- 152
At 15 weeks- 152

Ring Test
The ring test says to string your wedding ring on a string or piece of hair and then dangle it over your belly while you are laying down.  If it swings back and forth it's a boy and if it swings in a circle it's a girl.

Prediction: GIRL

I had my sister do this one on me. She held it very still over my stomach and then it would start moving in a circle until it got bigger and bigger,  it was very crazy.  We tried it on my sister- who is not pregnant- and the ring did not move at all!

Baking Soda Test
What you do is put a little bit of baking soda in the bottom of a disposable cup and then add a little bit of your urine to it. If it fizzles like a soda, its boy. If there’s no fizzle, then it's a girl.

Prediction: GIRL

This one is similar to the Drano test- which I didn't want to mess with.

Mayan Age and Year Legend
This one works by taking the mother's age at conception and the year of conception. If both are even or odd, it's a girl. If one's even and one's odd, it's a boy.
Age: 30- even
Year: 2012- even

Prediction: GIRL

Morning Sickness in 1st Trimester
If you have bad morning sickness then it's a girl, if you have little to no morning sickness it's a boy.
(I honestly find this one hard to judge because how bad you feel is somewhat subjective.)
I had nausea 24/7 for weeks 6-13 and could only live on saltines, ginger ale and pizza- I only threw up once though. So is this bad morning sickness?!  For me it was awful but for other people that might not be too bad?!

I'm calling this one a draw

Bad skin Theory
This one says that girls steal your beauty and boys enhance your beauty, so if you your face is breaking out and your hair is greasy it's a girl.  If your skin is glowing and your hair is thick and voluminous it's a boy.

Prediction: BOY

I normally have awful skin and greasy hair- so clear skin and nice thick dry hair is a huge plus for me!

Personal Predictions
Myself, my Dad, and my Mom are saying BOY
Kyle, my sister, and most of my friends are saying GIRL

So what's your prediction?   If you've already had a baby were the old wives tales correct?

Sleep:  Better- I'm getting more used to sleeping on my side and having less hip/back pain
Best moment this week: I'm pretty sure I felt my first baby kicks!
Miss Anything?  Nothing really this week
Movement: I was laying really still watching tv last night and I felt three little twinges that I've never felt before and I know it has to be a little kick- crazy!

Random Tuesday

Hello Lovelies! How have you all been this week?  I have been soooo busy these past few days I feel like my head is spinning so let's talk about some important things on my mind.

First can we talk about this perfection:
I want to be her.

I don't really like her dress or hair but I do want to look like this one month after having a baby:
Seriously. Her son was born on December 17th.

Did you all watch The Bachelor this week?

Tierra is just awful.  She is going to be so much trouble and drama and I have a feeling some how she'll make it to the top 4 even though the girls repeatedly tell Sean she's crazy

It's a little less than 2 weeks until we find out what we're having but I can't help playing around on gender prediction websites.  Here is a fun one I found that does gender and date of birth.  The crazy thing is that I've been convinced since I got my due date of June 23 that I'm not going to have the baby until July 1

Natalie is expecting a baby!
Her due date is Sunday, June 23rd 2013.

we predict that she will have a
Girl!
on
Monday, July 1st 2013
at
9:21 am
weighing
3450 g ~ 7 lbs, 10 oz
Get your prediction at Spacefem.com

We have some changes going on around here so lots of cleaning and packing when on this weekend...
This the donatation pile from our closet

This is boxes of clothes and linens from our closet and the guest room closet... and this is just stuff we thinned out

I'm obsessed with this dress and considering buying it 2 sizes up in hopes it fits me this spring/summer:

Anyone else ready for spring to get here? We're pretty much just in the heart of winter here and I'm already over it.

Hope you all are having a good Tuesday!

Baby Essentials: What do I need? Help!

At my last appointment my doctor asked me who my pediatrician was and I was like, ummm I don't have one yet and she told me I need to find one ASAP because they can have a 6 month waiting list for a new baby- WHAT?!!?! Low and behond she then proceeded to tell me that furniture can take 4-6 months to get delivered, the hospital classes and tours are ususally booked months in advance, etc, etc, etc.  I thought I had a lot of time but apparently I'm wrong.  Needless to say I am officially freaked out!
I've started browsing Baby's R Us,  Target, and google searching and I have a rough list of baby items that I believe we'll need but to be honest I feel so lost.  I've been back through some other bloggers lists of must have but I swear everyone has something different on their list.

So I'm asking for your help- Is there a general list somewhere of everything you need to keep a baby alive?  What did you find were essential baby/new mom items that you could not live without?    What was a complete waste of money or overrated?   Where do I find all these consumer safety ratings everyone talks about?  What reviews should I trust- the ones I see on Amazon or Baby's R Us or am I looking for some official safety review?   What about recalls?  What brands were your favorites?

Any advice you all can offer is much appreciated!  Thanks!

16 weeks

I really want to document this pregnancy as best I can so that I can go back and see how far I've come.   I was hoping to take cute weekly photos like some bloggers have but I'm not sure that is going to happen all the time, so for now you get the self portrait in the mirror.

How far along? 16 weeks
Baby Size: a Turnip
Total weight gain/loss: 6 pounds-  I didn't gain anything for the first 12 weeks and then I gained 6lbs from weeks 11-15! I was shocked and concerned but my doctor was happy with it so I will go with it.
I decided to go by the doctors scale and only weigh at my appointments. I'm afraid that if I weigh myself every week I might make myself crazy.
Maternity clothes?  I've started wearing maternity pants  and they are AMAZING, I may never go back to regular pants. I am still in regular tops and think I will be for awhile. I gain most of my weigh in my backside (as you can see my Kim K butt in the pic) so that is where most of it has gone so far.
Stretch marks? No and hoping it stays that way
Sleep:  It's ok, I feel like it's getting worse week by week. I usually get up at least 2x a night to pee and I hate sleeping on my side so that has made it tough. I also started getting hip and shoulder pain so I've staring sleeping with a pillow between my legs which gives me a little relief
Best moment this week:  I feel like I'm finally getting a real bump instead of just looking chubby. I also had a Dr appt last week and heard the heartbeat at 152- best sound ever!
Miss Anything?  I definitely missed wine and champagne over the holidays but I probably miss my Dunkin Donuts coffee the most!
Movement: I think I've possibly felt movement but I'm not sure if its baby or tummy rumblings
Food cravings: Milk - I HATE milk normally and I usually drink Soy or Almond milk but now I love a big glass of milk or chocolate milk.  I also don't want skim it must be 1 or 2%. I probably haven't had a glass of milk since I was 8 and now I have one almost every day.   Pregnancy cravings are so weird.
Anything making you queasy or sick:  Nothing is really bothering me anymore- I'm not a huge fan of meat these days including chicken
Have you started to show yet: a little bump is finally there!
Gender prediction: I just have this feeling that it’s a boy! I don’t know why but I do, my mom, sister and husband think girl
Labor Signs:  No
Belly Button in or out?  In
Wedding rings on or off?  On
Happy or Moody most of the time:  Happy and relaxed most of the time but I do still have worries here and there.  I will admit that sometimes I get moody if I don’t get enough sleep
Looking forward to:  My gender ultrasound in 2 weeks- can't wait to find out!

The Bachelor:It's Baaaaack!

There is nothing I love more about The Bachelor than the drunk, crazy, desperate women that show up to "fall in love" with one man.

Ahhh it reminds me that I am not that cray cray and am actually someone normal and down to earth.

Sean is actually pretty hot so I am excited to watch this season.  I honestly didn't see any girls that were blow me away gorgeous.  They were pretty and skinny but I didn't think any of them were drop dead gorgeous.  Kyle was quite disappointed too as he agrees to watch the show so he can drool over the hot girls and make fun of their crazy.

I think my favorite of the night was Ashley P. with the 50 Shades of Gray tie and falling down drunk.  I was really sad she was sent home because I think should would have been awesome to see this season.  My favorite line from her was why she had no idea why she was single... hahaha after only 15 mins of seeing her on TV I could have told her why she's single.

My next favorite was Lindsay in the wedding dress. It was so awkward and she kept saying it was a joke.  Later in the night she got so drunk and then tried to get Sean to just make out with her right then and there.  Which was awesome.  I was shocked she got a rose. I'm not sure if she got a rose because she was so bold or because ABC made him keep her for drama.

The twist of the evening was that Sean was just giving out roses like candy while he was chatting with the ladies and not at the rose ceremony.  I honestly enjoyed this twist and think that it helped to add to the drama and cattiness right away.

Tierra, AshLee, Desiree, Robyn, Selma, Brooke, Catherine, Katie, Jackie, Leslie H., Sarah, and Diana all got roses before the actual ceremony.    What is up with Tierra's name?! It's like Sierra with a T.
Then Amanda, Lesley M, Kacie, Kristy, Daniella, Taryn, and Linsday got roses during the ceremony.  I'm not sure I have a favorite yet.

Here are some more thoughts:
-Paige needs to find a new reality tv franchise to invade- clearly her time in the Bachlor family is over
-I'm interested to see how Kacie is this season- we all knew she would definitely get a rose
-I like one armed Sarah but I have a feeling that we are going to hear about the one arm and her struggles with it for the the whole season
- Tierra looks like she's going to be a lot more drama than we thought
-The recap with Arie is ridiculous- guys don't sit around just talking about their feelings
- I'm excited for the scene where Desiree's "boyfriend" shows up.  I wonder if the producers try to pick one girl a season with boyfriend or drama from home

So what did you think?  Do you have a favorite yet?  Do you think this season will be good?

How we found out

**Feel free to skip over pregnancy posts if they're not you're thing- I just want to document this for me to remember**

We decided in 2012 since we were 30 and felt well established in our lives that we were finally ready to start a family.
Well month after month nothing was happening and I'd gotten used to seeing the negative tests,  because trust me when you're trying you will pee on a stick a week before you're supposed to just in case. After 6 months of negatives we decided that we weren't really going to "focus" on it in September.  We had a lot of weddings and traveling so it didn't fit into our schedule and we felt like we needed a little break. I decided that month too that I wanted to get myself back into good shape, maybe lose 5-10lbs and start up again in a few months.  I was thinking maybe around or after Christmas.   To be honest I think September was one of the most fun months I had this year because I didn't have the weigh of trying for a baby on my shoulders and I was being so good about going to the gym and eating healthy.  Life had another plan.

Fast forward to October 16th, it was a Tuesday and I was super stressed from work.  I had just gotten home and all I wanted to do was pour myself a HUGE glass of wine and then it dawned on me that I was 2 days late.   I went upstairs and took a test expecting it to be negative so I just went about my evening chores.  Well about 5-10 mins later I remembered the test and strolled into my bathroom casually, expecting to just throw it away and that's when I looked down and saw 2 lines.  I'm pretty sure the first words out of my mouth were,  "Are you #$%&! kidding me?"
I was in SHOCK.   That was the only test I had so I started to panic and realized I needed to take at least 10 more to be sure.  Kyle was in class so I couldn't call him and I didn't know what to do, I paced around my house for a few minutes and then my sister called.  She started to tell me that she was near my house and wanted to see what I was doing and I bascially just kept saying "Oh my god I'm freaking out, I'm freaking out".  She suddenly caught on and was like "OH MY GOD ARE YOU PREGNANT?"   I think I sweaked out a yes and that I only had 1 test that I took.   My sister immediately came to my house and we went to Target where we bought 3 more tests.

The first test I took is in the middle.

I think it finally became real to me when the Clearblue digital test said Pregnant.  I was filled with so many emotions, shock, excitement, fear, elation, more fear, etc I didn't really know how to feel.

I waited for Kyle to get home from class at 10:00pm (the longest 3 hours of my life) and I just bombarded him with the news right when he got in the door and handed him the 3 tests while half giggling, half crying.   I'm pretty sure I told him I was shocked and scared and excited and I hoped he was too.  That part is kind of blurry.   He was pretty shocked too and honestly walked around our house with his backpack on and his work bag still in his hand for about 10 minutes talking out loud about the situation and calming himself down.   It's pretty funny to look back on now.

I didn't realize how much those little sticks could drastically change your life.  I mean I knew but you don't feel the weight of it until you're in that situation.  Sometimes I still think, "OMG I'm going to be someone's mom!"    Sometimes me and Kyle sit around and just talk about how there is a human being growing in my body (I still can't get over that part) and that in just 5 months we're going to have a baby that is ours and we're responsible for.
