I put together this design/mood board for Kyle but had to share it here with you since I'm hoping to share the progress as we get the room completed.
Here are some pictures of the living room in it's current glory so you can get an idea.
This is what you see when you look in from the front door/main hallway
Here is the fireplace
Here is the view from the right back corner

These two below are looking in from the dining room into the living room. When we did the renovation we did all new wall, window trim, and baseboards.
So looking back at the mood board below, you can get an idea of where we want to put things.
We want to keep this room as "adult" as possible. I feel like 90% of our house is over run with kid stuff so I'm excited to have an area that's just for adults. I like to think I can keep the kids out of the room, but we'll see! There will definitely be a no toys allowed rule in the room for sure.
The walls are already painted Sherwin Williams Repose Gray and we're planning on keeping that for now. I'm leaning toward a jute rug in this room and really like the Diamond one from Pottery Barn. Kyle wants something with a little more color and pattern too it. What do you all think?
So the idea is to have the Modern Gustavian chests with the X-quisite mirror (both from Wisteria) over them flanking the fireplace on either side. If we do mirrors over the chests then I will definitely have artwork over the fireplace. I really like this piece I found on One Kings Lane from Michelle Armas but this could change as the room evolves.
For seating we would have four of the Serena and Lilly Jamieson chairs around the Bamileke coffee table. We have couches in the family room, sun room, and basement so we're really looking for something different here. We are not sold on the stripes, this was just to show an idea but these chairs will definitely be upholstered in a print of some sort.
On the back wall (the wall above that currently has a random toy box on it) I like the idea of a long console table with two large lamps on it and then in the middle of the lamps I would probably do a gallery wall of family photos, photos from trips we taken, that kind of thing. I love this console table from Wisteria and I'm obsessed with these Ethan Allen Kiera lamps, just need to convince Kyle of the price tag.
So this is our starting point! I'm excited to finally have an idea of what we're going to do in this room. While I know things will change as we start to decorate and work on budgets I'm really hoping we can get as close to this final product.
What do you all think? Has anyone done the four chairs around a coffee table look? Does it work well?

I love the accents of blue against the lighter wood pieces! I've been putting together a living room inspiration board for my husband and I's apartment too (sharing next week!). We've also been allowing time to live in the space with the basics before we invest in additional furniture and decorative details, and it's been so helpful with nailing down our vision!
ReplyDeleteLOVE! And I'm very pro 4 chairs. I personally feel that people/guests are always more comfortable in their own chair versus sharing a sofa/loveseat, and I think the look totally accomplishes a casual chic vibe!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful room. I love the floor to ceiling windows.
ReplyDeleteLove every single thing on this design board! Gorgeous. It will look amazing when it's done!

oh! and I love chairs but I'm a sofa and 2 chairs person.... but that's just because I am lazy and want the couch to myself :)
DeleteI LOVE this! I can't wait to see it come together. I saw someone use these lamps from Target in the One Room Challenge. They look kind of similar to the ones on your board: https://www.target.com/p/lamp-base-bubble-glass-with-brass-threshold-153/-/A-51455068#preselect=51011191
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have this console table from World Market and love it! https://www.worldmarket.com/product/everett+foyer+table.do?sortby=ourPicks&from=Search
DeleteMy cousin has 4 large chairs around a coffee table...I'll see if I can find a picture.
ReplyDeleteI have a console table that is very similar to the inspiration from World Market but it is much less expensive!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fabulous space, and love that fireplace! Loving that coffee table and that striped chair. I can't wait to see it all come together <3
