Weekend Recap and Birthday Party and Sunscreen Questions

Happy Monday Y'all!!   My sister is on spring break this week so we have some fun things planned.  Like a trip to Ikea and lunch today.  Woohoo!!

The weather here was so beautiful that I cannot say one bad thing about the weekend.  It was 75 and sunny on Saturday and 80 and sunny on Sunday.  It was magnificent.

On Friday Miller met the Easter bunny and it was a total success.  I wasn't sure how he would react since he seemed a little pensive when we arrived but he absolutely loved him!  It was actually a woman in the costume so I think that helped.

I picked up this navy and white stripe tank top from Old Navy last week and I'm obsessed!  It only cost $15 and it's comfortable and flattering.   It's also long which is a plus for someone who is tall like me.

On Saturday we spent most of the day at the park.  Miller absolutely loves the swings and can't get enough of them.  Kyle and I had a night out with some friends which was so fun! As much as I love my little guy it's so nice to get out and have some adult time and real conversation.

I've already starting working on Miller's birthday and since I only have 2.5 months left (AHHHH!!) I was looking for advice on the following:

-What's a good party time for little kids? Miller takes a set morning nap from 8-10am but his afternoon nap is all over the place- it could be 12-2 or 1-2 or 3-4.  I'm trying to find a good time to start the party that would work for most parents with small babies/kids.

-Activites for older kids- we will have ages ranging from 6 months to 5 years old so I want to make sure that I have some activities for the older kids.  We are planning for a late June weekend so we hope to be outside.  A lot of people suggest moonbounces but I'm not sure how I feel about those so I would love to hear some suggestions!

My next question is about Sunblock for Miller- as you can see he has very fair irish skin!
I have a tube of the Honest sunscreen and it did a great job keeping the sun off of him this weekend but it's so greasy.  I'm not sure if this is common for the more natural sunblock but I felt like this was greasier than many others I've used and I had a hard time getting it off of him in the bath.
I would love to hear your sunscreen suggestions!

  1. My sister-in-law recently threw our niece's first birthday and had a similar range of children in attendance. A big hit was covering the tables in paper tablecloth and having crayons and markers scattered about. Easy entertainment!

  2. Love that ON tank! The price is crazy! I don't go there too often but when I do I find their stuff to be so unfitted. Have you ever heard of Supergoop? I'm dying to try it but it's sunscreen and supposed to be great. Doesn't leave you greasy. Not sure if it can be used on kids. Definitely something to look into!

  3. We use Coppertone Water Babies Pure and Simple 50 spf and it's not greasy at all. It coats the skin in a white film before thoroughly rubbed in, which I like, because I can really make sure I don't miss any of his skin. I've put it on his face and in his hair too.

  4. oh my gosh love the Easter bunny pics! We don't have a bunny around here so I guess we are skipping that this year. I need a good sunscreen too, let me know what you find out! the Honest is def greasy and I have bad memories of cleaning that off last summer!

  5. I also use the Coppertone Water Babies sunscreen and it always went on well and wasn't very greasy or hard to get off and did a good job protecting him. We did Hunters first bday party from like 3-6 since I knew he would be up from his nap by that point. We've had both parties at our house and I got some coloring books for the kids and basically just let them get all of Hunters toys out and play, even the older kids had fun doing that. Since it will be June maybe a slip and slide and baby pools?

  6. We did Jack's first birthday late afternoon/early evening. I think it started around 4 and we provided dinner. This year at two, I think I'm going to do a mid-morning party. We plan to keep this one very simple. If you didn't want to do a moon bounce, you could keep it simple for the older kids with bubbles, water table, etc. The bubbles could be a cool bubble fan or big wands to make it cooler for the kids. I think kids have fun outside no matter what the activity. As for sunscreen, we use Neutrogena Pure and Free for Baby. It isn't greasy and comes in a high SPF.

  7. Great tank top! For SS birthday party we sort of did a 3-5 and just made it floating in case of naps running late.
We use Badger Natural Sunscreen or Neutrogena Pure and Free. SS has eczema so we have to be careful with sunscreen causing flare ups!

  8. I've been thinking about that dang tank top all weekend long! I really wish there was a closer ON to my house so I could try it on - but it is darling on you!!

  9. My friend just had her kids bday party as an "open house' from 12 to 3 (or maybe 1 to 4?) and people came and went as they pleased. It seemed to work out great. Have a water table, always seems to be a big hit. A moon bounce seems like a lot!

  10. As our babies share the same birthday, I've been dreaming up first birthday ideas too! I'm 99.9% sure I'm having our party from 11am-1pm. I've decided that for the babies still on 2 naps that it's the perfect time and for the older babies that only take one nap, they usually don't go down until about 1pm or so. My child is not an afternoon/evening baby, so I knew a late party was out of the question for us. Now I'm trying to make the final decision on whether a Saturday or Sunday is better for people. It makes no difference to me really, so we'll see :) Hope that helps!

  13. Love the outdoor swing pics! What a cutie. For my son's b-day, we kept it simple with just a cupcake theme (blue of course). We set it up as more of an open house type thing and just encouraged family and friend stop by when it was convenient for them. I might have mentioned an approximate time for cake- just so those who wanted to be there to see what our son did could be sure they were there then, but it was really a party for the adults. I love the California Baby Sunscreen the best- it's a little thicker than others, but it works great and doesn't bother my son's sensitive skin (we still use it and he's going to be 8 in June!!).

  14. When Dell Harper was a baby we used California Baby sunscreen- it's so expensive though so now I just use it on her face. It is wonderful! Love the Easter Bunny picture! A lot of parties we go to have a bunch of riding toys- trikes, wagons, etc (collected from friends if you don't have any yet). That keeps everyone active and entertained. Also, I think 10-12 is a great time- everyone is happy!

  15. I'm so late on commenting since I have only been on my iPad for a couple of days (it won't let me comment.) I use Honest on the kids before we leave the house so it can dry then Neutrogena Dry Spray once we are out and about because they won't sit still anymore. Greyson has really bad eczema and the Honest is the best to not irritate it. I love it for myself too! And then I force them to wear all of the SPF 50 bathing suits they sell at Carter's :)

  16. We use the California Baby stick sunscreen on Mac's face and love it. For the body, we use the California Baby lotion type and a spray on the top of his head. I've heard good things about Honest too, but we haven't tried it yet. As for birthday parties, I think we had Mac's party at 10 a.m. for three hours and people could come and go as they wanted. We served lunch, so people could come towards the end (if their kids took a morning nap) and still be able to eat. As for entertainment, we did sidewalk chalk, canvases that the kids could color/paint on and a fishing game in a kiddie pool. The fishing game was actually a HUGE hit! I just cut out fish shapes from construction paper, hot glued a magnet on them and put a magnet on the end of a string on a stick. I put the fish in a kiddie pool with a bunch of blue balloons (kinda like water) and the kids spent hours fishing! They loved it. I've had multiple people now copy the idea and it's always a hit.

  17. Totally agree about how important date nights are..ESPECIALLY once you have a LO.. We are having Savannas party at the house this year and have a date set for June 8th (a Sunday) at 2pm. I've had plenty of Birthday parties and been to quite a few..I find Saturday parties are typically a no go because everyone always has stuff to do (especially us since Nick is in sports) I always have 2pm birthday parties because it gives me time to pick up last minute supplies in the morning (cakes, balloons, food) and also gives everyone time to do what they need to do. If somebody had a 10am birthday party I probably wouldn't go..getting up and out of the house with littles is hard on me these days lol We are a moon bounce family, what can I say? Kids always love them.. I always have kick balls and other sports balls out, if the party is outside and the weather is warm enough we always play water balloon games, one of our favorites to date is having the kids have relay races, line up in 2 lines, holding water balloons and then "popping" them into a bucket at the end, whichever team fills up the bucket first WINS! Honestly, I've found the kids always like free play the best and you'll thank yourself for not having to rally up everyone for games..trust me. You won't have the time!!!
