How Do You Schedule Your Time?

When I left my 9-5 desk job to pursue a job in self employment I thought that having flexible hours and getting to work from home would give me so much time to get more accomplished. Not only with my job but I imagined myself being so organized that I would blog every day, grocery shop at Whole Foods during the week, cook (healthy and delicious) dinners nightly, pick up my dry cleaning on time, and have lunch with friends at least once or twice a week.

I was wrong.

In reality it seems that I have less time and I am constantly running out of time.  I work later hours,  I get to the dry cleaner after its closed, I've barely cooked this summer, my blogging has sucked,  and I feel like I have zero time to see my friends for lunch or even after work because I'm usually working late.   I can't figure out if I'm busier than I was at my last job or if I just have AWFUL time management skills and now that I don't have a boss looking over my shoulder I don't stay on task.

This is how I feel every night:

So tell me how do you schedule your time?  Do you have a strict after work schedule?  Do you have pre plan blog posts or schedule them before hand?   When do you find time to work out?  Do you cook every night- any quick dinner tips?

Any advice would be much appreciated!!

  1. Granted, I don't have a job like yours, but I'm all about time management. I have a pretty strict schedule each day that I stick to. I'm ALWAYS planning blog posts, outfits, and writing drafts that way they're almost ready to go (I edit several times). I do cook every night, and use Pinterest for pretty much every recipe. I'm tired of the same dinners, so I've been using my food board to make dinner (and sweets, lol). That has helped a lot, too! There are so many ideas online - easy recipes too!!

Hope this helps! You'll get better at time management.. don't worry!!! :)

  2. i have the same schedule (during the week) all the time - and i fit in school work, so i know you can! sunday night we make a big dinner that will last a few days, wed night we make another big dinner that will last til friday (we usually go out saturday for dinner). after work i go to gym (usually ;)), dinner, school work. some nights where i don't have homework, i'll write 3-4 blog posts so i don't have to worry about them each night. i don't have a crock pot (yet - we have it on our registry) but i hear they are fabulously easy!

good luck on getting on a schedule! at least you don't have a baby in the mix, yet :)

  3. I feel the same way! There are never enough hours in the day and if it makes you feel better I'm lucky if I can get a home cooked dinner on the table once a week!

  4. Hi, Nat, no real advice here; just wanted to drop a note to commiserate. I'm a teacher and I feel like that dude in your video clip when I get home every. single. day. lately. I've only been working two weeks and two days, if that says anything! The only thing I can think of is to try to cut myself some slack; it can be easy to focus on what I don't do, rather than what I do do. Sending positive thoughts out to you, girl. Just know, you are not alone in feeling run down sometimes!

  5. Hi Nat!

I still am trying to get into the swing of things, myself. When it comes to blogging, I do have some that are scheduled to be spread out up to a week since it is impossible to blog every day.

I have recently started back up with working out and really I spend 10 to 30 mins a day (more on the 10 side) working out. It may not be much but it is MUCH better than not being active at all. Maybe that is what you need some days when you are really exhausted and have no time. Take 10 mins to unwind. I have been doing 10 Minute Trainer series and that kicks my butt! Not to mention, I am finally getting back into shape and feeling great!

Definitely look into crockpot meals. You throw the ingredients into the crockpot and it does everything for you. I definitely take advantage of this about once a week. Better than eating out and it is a nice home cooked meal.

I hope that you are able to figure things out. It will take time but you can do it! ;)
