Thoughts for Thursday: Day in the Life

Happy Thursday Friends! Sorry I have been the worst blogger lately, but I'm slowly hoping to get back into a good routine.    I decided yesterday to do a day in the life post!  I haven't done one of these in so long and I love reading other peoples.

Date: Wednesday April 26, 2017
Natalie- 35- stay at home mom, Kyle-35- works in finance, Miller-3 years 9 months, and Matthew- 2 years 5 months

6:45am-  My alarm goes off after I had hit snooze twice.  BOTH kids are in bed with me.  Kyle is out of town and they had a new babysitter last night so both of them woke up at different times crying to get in bed with me in the middle of the night.   I'm exhausted because Matthew is the worst to share a bed with. Love the kid but he's impossible to sleep with.   The kids are both still asleep so I stay in bed until Miller wakes up at 7am.

7:10am-  Miller is awake so I turn on a Netflix for him, he's into a new on called Beat Bugs, seems cute and about music so I hop in the shower real fast while Matthew is still asleep.  I beg Miller to be quiet and not wake him up before I'm out.

7:30am- Matthew is still asleep so I head downstairs to make my coffee and breakfast for the kids.  It's going to be another cool rainy day, which is so depressing. Our weather has been so gross lately.

Ignore that lovely piece of broken wood, it's rotted out and Miller thought it would be fun to kick it off ;)

8:00am- I drag the kids downstairs to eat their breakfast.  We are running a little behind this morning and I'm trying my best to keep my cool and get them to breakfast without a threat or yelling ;) Miller has school today and I feel like our school mornings either go really well or really bad.  Trying to keep today a good day.  

Raspberry chobani and a whole grain waffle with butter for Matthew.  Miller gets one scrambled egg and a whole grain waffle with almond butter.

While the kids eat breakfast this is when I run around getting myself dressed, getting their clothes for the day, finishing up my make up and blow drying my hair.

8:40am-  It's sports day at school so I let Miller pick out a sports team shirt to wear.  Matthew wants to participate too so he picks the other red shirt Miller rejects.  I somehow get them both to sort of smile for me before school- a win!

8:45am-  We are in the car and off to school.

9:15am- Matthew and I drop Miller off at school and then we head to Dunkin Donuts so I can get a coffee before Matthew has playgroup.   Matthew of course gets a donut, the perks of being the second child :)

11:30am-  Matthew and I leave playgroup so we can pick Miller up from school.  Matthew's playgroup is every Wednesday from 9:30-11:30am, it's good social/activity time for both of us.

12:30pm-  We are home from school so I make the kids lunches while they watch a show and have some Cheerios.

I checked the mail on the way in from school and some new swim trucks arrived for the boys. How adorable are these seersucker whale prints! Our trip to Florida can't get here soon enough!

1:30pm- I take the kids upstairs for nap time/rest time.  Miller doesn't really nap anymore but since both of them slept in my bed and are pretty cranky I'm hoping I will get a nap out of both of them today. Especially since we have an event at Miller's school tonight.

2:30pm- Both kids are finally asleep!  They have both reached an age where getting them to sleep for nap or bedtime can be a struggle but I know they both need this nap so I pushed through.   I decided I'm going to try to catch up on The Arrangement (anyone else watching??) and do some blogging.

Around 4pm I decide I need another cup of coffee. I'm not usually an afternoon coffee drinker but after no sleep last night and knowing I have to be "on" this evening I make another one.

4:30pm- The kids are up from their naps and I start making dinner for them.  It's taco night which means Matthew has a taco, Miller eats avocado toast (because he won't eat tacos), and I have a taco salad.  We always do ground turkey or chicken mixed with avocado. It's how I sneak a fruit/veggie to Matthew.

5:15pm- We eat dinner together.  I forgot to take pictures of the kids meals but here is mine lol.

6:00pm- We hop in the car so we can head to Art Night at Miller's school.  This is a yearly fundraiser where the kids show off their art and we can bid on themed baskets to raise money for the school.  Last year we got the one for dog lovers but this year we didn't win anything.  It's such a fun event and the kids have a blast showing off their art work.

7pm- We leave Art Night and have some frozen yogurt with friends.  We leave around 7:30pm since Kyle calls saying he's home from his business trip but locked out of the house.

This is about the point in the night where I stop taking pictures.

8:00pm-  Get the kids upstairs to take a shower and get to bed. They're currently obsessed with taking a shower in our stand up shower. I'm kind of loving it because it just makes the whole event easier and faster.  After showers we get dressed and read stories in Matthew's room.  Since Kyle is home he'll put Miller to bed and I'll put Matt to bed.

8:30pm-  Lights out.  We usually aim for a 7:30-8pm bedtime but this was an exception since we had Art Night at school and the kids took long naps.

After lights out I head downstairs to clean up the kitchen.  Kyle turns on Southern Charm but I'm so exhausted I head up to bed to read at 9pm.  It's very rare I'm in bed this early but I just know I need to sleep.
I fall asleep while reading, Kyle comes up to bed at 10pm. I saw goodnight and fall back asleep.

Looking back on it yesterday was a pretty easy day with the kids!  I'm going to try to do these more often, if I can remember,  because I love looking back for my own sake too.

Friday Favorites: Shopbop Sale

Happy Good Friday Friends!  I hope everyone has had a great week and is looking forward to a fun Easter weekend with their family and friends.
Even though we just moved back into our house we will be hosting Easter dinner this year!  I'm not putting a ton of pressure on myself to have the table set to perfection and we're ordering some of the food ahead of time so that we can just enjoy the holiday with family, but I am excited to host.  I absolutely love hosting parties and events at my house so I'm excited to be home so that we can do that.

I know every blogger is all over this sale but I can't help myself! I always get pulled into these damn things.

I'm a sucker for sundresses this time of year and with our trip to Rosemary Beach on the horizon I had to snag a few new things for myself.  I pick up the first two dresses in the top row below.  I've had my eye on that Roberta Roller Rabbit one for awhile and that Free People one that everyone loves. I've heard the FP one is short so we'll have to see how it goes once it arrives. The far bottom right corner is my favorite Joie Tabara dress which is on sale and 20% off so if you've been eyeing it, snag it now! That Rachel Pally red and white striped has my name all over it and I think that off the shoulder blue and white one would be perfect for a summer date night.

Next we move onto accessories which is another one I'm a huge sucker for on Shopbop!  I bought those Tory Burch square sunglasses in black, they're the same as the ones I have in light pink that I love but are now sold out :(   I have those wedges and that gingham clutch in my cart but I really shouldn't be spending the money on them but they're soooo cute and on sale so it's hard to resist ;) I also love that striped Sam Edelman clutch too, of course I'm all over the blue and white as usual.

Thoughts for Thursday: I'm Back!

Hi Friends!  I am finally back!  It's been almost a month since I've been without a computer, which is probably the longest I've gone since I got my first computer in college, which was a long time ago.  I feel like I have so many things to update you on but I'm going to try to split it up into a few posts.

First things first if you follow me on Instagram (@eastcoastnat) then you know our renovations were finished last Friday!!  We officially moved back into our house on Saturday and spent our first night at home.  It was so nice to be home and have (most of) the renovation completed.   I added a few photos below but I promise to be back with a full detailed kitchen post with all our sources and how we went about the whole process.

Here is my new kitchen and dining room!!

Family room with shiplap over the fireplace and to the left is the sunroom that we opened up and made part of our the house.  The light is a little crooked so our electrician will be back to look at it next week, hoping it's an easy fix.

Old laundry room turned mudroom! Our contractor needs to come back and add the hooks and a few finishing touches but I am over the moon about having a room to dump all our stuff in.

This is our open pantry which is a still a huge work in progress as I figure out how to store food and keep it looking pretty at the same time.

We painted the interior and exterior of our front door black and I'm loving the extra detail it gives to our neutral space.

The kids are on spring break this week and we have had the best weather!! I just hope it stays like this for the rest of April and May because it's keeping us all in a good mood.

I also got a new Mac Computer! I've been a PC girl ever since college so this is a big change for me.  I'm still learning all the little ins and outs so bear with me as I get acquainted with it.  If you have any tips or tricks to getting to know a Mac let me know!

I'm so happy to be back and hope to have my posting back on schedule along with catching up on everyone's blogs and lives.

Thoughts for Thursday: Naptime Confessions

Happy Thursday Friends!! Well I started this post last night and then completely forgot it was Thursday today.  Daylight savings time and our random Tuesday snow day has thrown this whole week off for me, so I apologize!!

- I did a little blog layout update, which you've probably noticed by now!  I'm still on blogger but have been contemplating the switch to Wordpress, it makes me nervous though, any advice?  So in the mean time I just decided to spruce it up a little and used a template from Get Polished.  They were so easy to work with and I was able to install everything myself.  If you're looking for an inexpensive update, I highly suggest them.

-  I am so bitter that we have freezing cold temps again.  I knew that our warm spring like weather wouldn't last forever but usually we get some reprieve in March with temps in the 40s/50s but not this March.   This week has been so cold and we're going stir crazy inside our townhouse.

- Speaking of going crazy I'm sort of being a little germ crazy right now and not taking my kids to any indoor jump places or open gyms.  I know I probably should be but we had so many sicknesses these past few months I just cannot take it anymore.

- We are taking the kids to Philadelphia this weekend to the Franklin Institute for the Jurassic World exhibition then heading to my in-laws afterwards.   Miller is dinosaur obsessed and is so excited he gets to go to Jurassic World to see the dinosaurs.  I hope it lives up to the hype!

- Our official countdown for our first vacation of 2017 is 7 weeks away!! We are headed back to 30A and staying in Seacrest beach about 5 minutes from Rosemary Beach this year.   We had planned to stay in Rosemary again but couldn't find anything that fit our exact needs for 6 adults and 3 toddlers.  We ended up finding a place in Seacrest that is a 5 minute walk away from downtown Rosemary.  If you've been to that area you know how small it is so it's not that big a deal.  We are going for a week this year instead of just 4 days so we're all so excited to explore more of 30A and get to know the area better.

- Matthew is starting to show signs that he wants to potty train.  I think it's because he's always watching Miller.  My goal was train him before memorial day/summer time so he could be in the big pool this summer but now that it's only 10 weeks away I'm not sure I'm ready.  Miller was difficult to train and I'm not really looking forward to doing it again so soon.

- We are having a hard time keeping Miller in bed at night.  He's nighttime potty trained and no longer wears a pull up so he wakes up once or twice a night to use the bathroom. That part I'm fine with but once he's up he has a hard time not accepting that it isn't morning time and does not want to go back to bed.  We usually end up laying with him or letting him come in our room.  Any advice on how to change this?  I'm thinking cutting out liquids a half hour before bed time and maybe that will help ?!

Current Obsessions

Happy Hump Day Friends!  How did those of you in the northeast fair with the snow storm?  We only got a few inches but it was that heavy icy snow so they ended up closing everything down yesterday.  Miller doesn't have school on Tuesday anyway but we decided to just stay inside and take advantage of the snow day.  

Despite the snow and freezing temperatures here I have spring on my mind and I can't shake it! I've rounded up my current favorites this week below:

I picked up this top at Loft last week and I'm obsessed.  I swear I go through phases of hating and loving their stuff and right now it's all so good! It's such a good transition to spring/summer piece that I can layer under sweaters and jackets.  

How adorable are these scallop hem shorts!  You all know I love J.Crew shorts and I love that these are offered in the 4in inseam which is my speed these days.  They come in a few fun colors too.  

Gingham, navy blue, and a one piece.  Check, Check, Check! 

I'm still loving the off the shoulder trend, are you all?  I love this dress from BB Dakota. It's the perfect fun light summer dress.  

Did you all know that Ellen DeGeneres made shoes?? Have I been living under a rock?  Well I was searching Nordstrom for a good basic flat (all I have right now are TB Revas and I need something new) when I came across these and thought they were so cute. They're basic and not too exciting but exactly what I was looking for, oh and under $100.  They have good reviews and I love the cap toe look.  I just ordered a pair so I'll let you all know what I think.  

Loving this tank top as another good winter to spring transition top.  It looks like the perfect piece to layer under a sweater or wear with skinny jeans on a warmer day.  I love this gray but the black and striped ones too.  

More gingham, yes please!! I love this dress and think it would be easy to dress up or down all spring and summer long.  Those earrings, well see next item, because I just bought a pair on sale from Baublebar this week which means I probably need to buy this dress to style them together.  Right? That's how I plan to explain it to Kyle anyway ;) 

I don't know if you all love the statement earring trend as much as I do but I just can't get enough.  In case you missed it Baublebar is still having their 25% off sale today. I picked up these earrings and a pair of blue tassel ones on Monday.   

Love this clutch. Clare V always has a clutch I'm loving. I love the fun colors for spring and the fact that white is the main color. I fall in love with white handbags this time of year, every year.  

I love the feminine style and floral details of this dress.  I think it would be perfect for Easter. I rarely find dresses this length that I like on myself so I'm hoping my local Loft has this one to try on.  

Is it sandal weather yet?? I'm hoping yesterdays snowstorm was our last and final bout of winter because I'm ready for spring.  These sandals would be perfect for ankle jeans or shorts in the summer.  

The reviews don't look promising for this one fitting my long torso but I ordered it anyway because I'm of course obsessed.  It's blue and white striped and off the shoulder, it's basically begging me to buy it.  I will keep you all posted one it arrives.  

Every year, no fail, I fall in love with a white handbag.  Then I remind myself that I have a 3 yr old and a 2 yr old  boy so I would be an idiot to buy one but then I think YOLO, then I come back down to earth and don't buy it.   This one looks perfect though, in all it's white perfection, the only thing missing is the crossbody option which is making me loves and consider this J.Crew one.

This is one of my favorite tanks from J.Crew Factory!! I own this red and white from the past few years and love them. Seriously you will not regret owning this one. They're lightweight and easy to throw on, very flattering, and they cut out pattern on the front just adds something extra.  I will picking up a few new ones this season.

Loving these sandals.  I don't actually think I own any black sandals, I can't remember though since I don't have my full closet here at the townhouse.  I think these would be fun to dress up jeans or a dress this summer. I love the wood block heel and tassel on the back.

Friday Favorites: Beauty

TGIF Friends!  Who's excited the weekend is here?  Today I wanted to share some beauty products I've been loving lately.  One of my favorite things about blogs and social media these days is seeing what other people recommend (it's where I find most things I love) so when I find stuff I love I always want to share it.  I try to make sure I've been using this stuff for a few weeks before I share reviews so I know it really works or doesn't work.  So here we go:

1. L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Self Tanning Towelettes- I have my sister to thank for this one and she actually got this recommendation from Cameran from Southern Charm's instagram.  It's about this time of year that I'm over being pale and sickly looking so I'm turning toward some sunless tanner.  I have been loyal to St. Tropez Self Tanner for years but was looking for something different and easier to try.  So I picked these up when I was at Ulta two weeks ago and I'm obsessed! First of all they're cheap, which is always a win and the towelette is huge so I only need one to do my whole body, including my face.  I found that they give me the perfect glow without looking two fake. You can build up to the tan you want too.  Taking the advice of my sister I usually do it two nights in a row and then I'm good for the week.   It's just the little something I need to pep me up when it's still cold and dreary here.

2. Neulash Lash Enhancing Serum- So I've been wanting to try one of these lash enhancers forever and finally treated myself last month for my birthday.   I have to say I love it and it really works! I've always had short blonde eyelashes so mascara is the one makeup product I never ever leave my house without.  These have made my lashes so much longer and thicker, the only downside is that they're still super blonde so I need to keep wearing mascara so you can actually see them.  It says it takes about 30 days to see results and I agree with that.  I plan to keep using it so I'll let you know if they continue to grow or thicken in the next 30 days.  It is not cheap but so far I think it's worth it and I'll let you know how long it lasts.

3. Alba Botanica Body in the Buff Grapefruit and Walnut- my skin gets so dry in the winter and just felt so flaky and rough even when using lotion everyday.  I saw this in Target and decided to give it a try.  It has helped make my skin so soft!  It does a good job exfoliating my skin without irritating it and it's helping it suck up the lotion so much better.  I also really like the scent which can be a huge make or break for me, it smells clean and fresh without being overpowering.

4. BeautyCounter Rejuvenating eye cream- I am one month into using this eye cream and really loving it.  Unfortunately I have hereditary black circles under my eyes coupled with bad allergies so there isn't really a miracle cream that will fix them but I definitely think this has brightened them and tightened up the skin around my eyes without drying it out. I've found a lot of the eye creams that tighten also really dry out the skin.  My eyes just feel refreshed when I use this.  I've been using it morning and night and would highly recommend it.

5. First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser- this is my holy grail face cleanser.  My skin post-babies has been awful. It's dry, has red patches, and likes to break out like I'm a teenager if I do anything crazy to it.  I discovered this cleanser last spring and haven't looked back.  It takes off all your makeup and really leaves my skin feeling clean but without making it feel dry and tight.

6. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Hydra-firm Night Cream-  I will admit that for years I never  used a night cream. Thanks to having breakouts most of my life night creams were just always another culprit for bad skin instead of good skin.  After having kids and having extremely dry skin I found that the drier it got, the worse it broke out.  So last winter I started using this night cream and it's been such a help.  So far it's the only one I've found that hasn't made my face break out.  If you have skin like mine I would give this one a try.

7. BeautyCounter Lip Gloss in Dahlia-  this is my new favorite lip gloss! I feel like the picture below makes it look darker than it is in real life but I think it's the perfect pop of pink for everyday.  I usually prefer lipstick over lip gloss because lip gloss can be so sticky but this one is lighter than that, if that makes sense, and doesn't feel nearly as sticky as other lip glosses I've used.   I really want it in Coralbell so fingers crossed it comes back in stock soon!
