Life Lately and Oscar Favorites

Happy Leap Day!   How was your weekend?  Ours was pretty fun, nothing too exciting but nice and relaxing.

I posted this picture on Instagram on Thursday and a few of you asked me about the artwork on the walls. It's from One Kings Lane and is about 2 years old but I've seen it pop up on the site from time to time so keep an eye out for it.   There is nothing better than a clean house (that I didn't clean myself ;) and napping kids.

We were back at the pediatrician on Thursday evening for Matthew's 15 month check up.  He weighs 22lbs and is 32in tall putting him exactly 4lbs lighter and 4in shorter than Miller.  I have a feeling they really are going to look like twins soon.   The doctor also determined that he has a sinus infection instead of an ear infection hence the high fevers he had.   He had to get four shots and was not a happy camper.

I thought we were in the clear on Friday but he woke up with another fever of 101.  So we stayed in pajamas all day, snuggled and watched movies.

Kyle and I ordered pizza Friday night and tried to watch Fuller House.   I thought it was cute and nostalgic but Kyle thought it was totally cheesy. We only got through one episode but I'm hoping to watch a few more this week and see what I think.  Did you all watch?  What did you think?

I didn't really take any pictures on Saturday but we spent most of the day just doing chores around the house and then headed to our favorite spot Park Tavern for an early dinner.  I wore my new $3 Target aviator sunglasses I got from the dollar bin.  Not going to lie I'm kind of obsessed with them.  I know they'll probably break quickly but they work for the meantime.
Sorry for the awkward selfie

Kyle left early on Sunday for a "work trip" to Park City Utah so I was on my own yesterday.  After our bright and early 8am swim lesson my mom and sister came over to hang out with me for the day.
My mom with her three grandsons.  How adorable is my nephew Jameson?!  So serious all the time but too cute.

It got up to 64 degrees yesterday so we were able to spend most of the day outside, including eating lunch out there and letting the kids run around.

My sister was wearing these booties and they're so adorable I had to buy myself a pair.  They seem to be perfect for looking put together but still being able to run around with kids.

Did you watch the Oscars last night?  I usually just watch the red carpet and a the first hour but I got totally sucked in last night.   I stayed up waaaaay to late to see if Leo would finally win an Oscar.

My best dressed were:

I was so happy that Leo finally won the coveted Oscar that he's waited years for!  I did find the show a little boring and when did it become a platform for everyone's political agenda?! Not trying to start any debates it's just not the same Oscars I remember watching years ago as a kid.   Maybe it's been like this for awhile and I don't remember since I never make it more than an hour into it.

Hope you all have a great first week of March!

Saturday Shopping: Floral and Feminine

I hope you all are having a relaxing Saturday so far. Today I've rounded up some of my favorite floral dresses for spring.  I love the feminine flirty cuts of these dresses and I'm not sure I'll be able to narrow down which ones to add to my closet.

Feminine and Floral
Dresses: one// two// three// four// five// six// seven
Handbags: one// two// three// four
Shoes: one// two// three// four// five// six

Nordstrom and Shopbop both have such a good selection of floral dresses this spring it was hard to decide which ones to share with you.  I am also loving the look of a saddle bag or simple crossbody with this style of dress.  I feel like you could really have fun with the shoes from a classic pump to a fun sandal or even a bootie.

So what do you think?  Do you like the floral dress trend?  Do you prefer a longer or mini dress style?

Thoughts for Thursday: Naptime Confessions

Welcome back to Thoughts for Thursday! Remember you can blog about anything you want.  Just grab the button and link up below.  I had another post planned but this week has been rough, so bear with me on a confessions post.

- Matthew woke up Monday night with a fever of 100.3 I finally got him settled and when he woke up Tuesday it was up to 101.3, then 102, 103.3 and then 104.3 at 5pm.  I tried my hardest to not completely panic and lose my mind.  I spoke to a nurse at our pediatrician office because the motrin wasn't doing anything to bring it down and he was miserable.  So I tried Tylenol and put him down for bed at 6:30pm and by 8:30pm his fever was down to 101.3.   I had to wake him up to check because I was so freaked out.  Has anyone else dealt with a fever that high? On Wednesday morning it was down to 100 and then by yesterday afternoon it was gone.  The Dr. diagnosed it as a virus but he also has an ear infection and a bad cough so we got some antibiotics just in case.

- I tried going to bed early last night but Matthew woke up coughing around 11pm and I couldn't get him back down until close to midnight.  Then Miller woke up at 3am and got into our bed because he was scared.  I love the kid but he's the hardest person to sleep with, he was all over the bed, and kept waking me up to ask me questions.  So needless to say I need 10 coffees to get me through today...

- I deleted the Facebook app off my cell phone and it's one of the best things I've ever done.  I felt like I just ended up getting sucked into reading stupid articles or getting angry about drama on our neighborhood page.  All totally useless information that I didn't need to spend time on.

- Over the past few years I've been keeping my hair on the darker blonde side and I'm so tired of it.  I know it's only March next week but I have a hair appointment and I'm going blonde, Super summer blonde again because I miss it so much.

- I'm thinking about doing a no spend March, but then I'm afraid a lot of cute spring and summer stuff is going to come out and I'm going to be sad. #pathetic I know

- I gave up chocolate for Lent and then I totally failed :(  I'm usually so good about following Lent but I completely forgot on our vacation.

- I was going to start potty training Miller this weekend but now that Matthew has been sick and no one has been sleeping I'm thinking about moving it until next weekend. Anyone have any potty training advice?

That's all I've got for today friends! What are your confessions this week?

Current Obsessions

Happy Hump Day Friends! How is your week going?  This rainy weather we've been having is so depressing.  I mean I'll take it over snow any day but I wouldn't mind seeing the sun soon.   I still can't seem to shake off my trip to Cancun and my wish for warm weather, so I'm continuing to obsess over things I can't wear for at least three more months.

I still haven't jumped on the off the shoulder train but I'm loving this dress from ASOS so I want to give it a try. It doesn't hurt that it's only $26!!

How cute are these Le Specs sunglasses?  For some reason I'm on a huge sunglasses kick these days.  I'm loving oversized glasses and these are only $69!  Much more affordable than some of my favorite pairs.

I think this shirt dress would be adorable for the spring!  You could throw on a jean jacket and some booties to wear it until it got warmer out.

This tank looks like such an easy throw on tank for summer time and comes in a ton of colors.  You could definitely buy some now and layer until the weather got warmer.

Alex Monroe is a new designer to Shopbop and I'm loving all of his stuff.  This bumblebee necklace is my favorite but he also makes a bunny, fox, dragonfly, and hummingbird!  He also makes rings and bracelets that are just as cute.

I'm loving this blouse for now and this summer with jean shorts.  I love the embroidered detail to give it a little something.  It also comes in a fun blue and yellow.

I have a really hard time finding wedges that don't make me 6ft tall and these Loeffler Randall ones look perfect.   I love the feminine scallop detail and the nude color is perfection.

I have a J.Crew chambray dress from a couple of years ago and it's been such a staple in my closet but I feel like it needs an update.  I like the way this looks light and airy and I could wear it now with booties and through the summer with sandals.

Another off the shoulder look I'm loving, for some reason I'm really love the peasant blouses this year but this one looks comfy and cute. Something I could pull off with the kids around.

Again Old Navy is killing it lately and this dress is no exception.  Such a fun simple summer dress with a flattering cut.

This bag is a total splurge but ahhhh so perfect for spring! I'm drooling over it and trying to convince Kyle it would be a great mother's day gift (wink, wink).

I feel like I share a striped dress at least once a week but this one is too adorable not too.  It comes in four other colors and would again be a great transition piece from winter to spring.

Love this straw hat from Norstrom.  I have a few straw hats but the brims are all so big and saggy now I can't really wear them with the kids so this looks like it would be a great size.

Kyle and I were looking at the Serena & Lily catalog for inspiration for our renovations when we saw this wallpaper and fell in love!  We really want to add some fun bright colors when we renovate this year and we're trying to find a place to use this fun print.   It comes in a few colorways, but this navy one is my favorite.

What are you obsessing over this week friends?

Cancun Trip Recap

Hi Friends! Hope you all are having a great week.  I'm back today with my Cancun recap! We had such an amazing time and I was so sad to see the vacation end.  I had to take yesterday to unpack, do laundry, and sort through the almost 600 pictures I took of our trip!  It was our first vacation with just our family of four and it's the first time I've been out of the country since our honeymoon so I went a bit nuts taking photos of everything thing.  I'm going to apologize ahead of time for how long this post is, this is even the condensed version ;)   I will be back later this week or next week with my tips for taking small kids to the beach and some of my favorite beach gear (since a few of you asked). If there is anything else you want me to include or any questions you have feel free to ask.

This was the boys first flight and I was a little nervous about how they would do for four hours on a plane. I mean they can barely be entertained with play-doh for twenty minutes,  but they shocked us both and were awesome!   We were lucky that our flight down was pretty empty so we had six seats to ourselves.  Miller fell asleep about two hours into the flight and Matthew fell asleep with about forty five minutes left.  Miller was super easy and just sat in his seat,  read books, played toys, and watched the Ipad.  Matthew was harder but I found that just giving him snacks non-stop and changing out toys or books every 20 minutes worked to keep him busy.  He doesn't love sitting still for tv shows but watched a few on the plane for me.  The ladies behind us told me they were angels and did so well after we landed which made me feel a lot more confident.

We arrived in Cancun around 1 pm and after a breeze through customs and baggage claim we were on our way to the resort.  We stayed at the Ritz Carlton and it lived up to my expectations. The hotel itself has an older European feel to it but all the guest rooms are updated with a modern look which I liked. I cannot say enough good things about the staff and service there.  They were amazing and really catered to everything we needed.  They greeted us with a drink for Kyle and me and a bag of brand new beach toys for the boys.

We rented an oceanfront suite and I'm so happy we went that route.  Kyle debated back and forth but he knew we would be happier with a space for sleeping and a space for hanging out since the kids still nap and would be going to bed before us.  This way we would still be able to enjoy our trip and hang out without worrying about waking them up.   There was full bath with double sinks, tub, and shower in the bedroom.  There was also access to the big balcony and a smaller side balcony in the bedroom.

The sitting room area had a couch, tv, two chairs, a mini fridge, and a table with chairs. It also had a half bath which was a nice bonus. We moved the roll away cot seen below for Miller into the bedroom up against our bed so that we were all in the room together.

Kyle mentioned it was my birthday so they had a treat waiting for me in the hotel room.  The kids also got a little welcome snack of chocolate chip cookies, local Mexican candies, and chocolate milk. Miller my little chocoholic loved it.

Our oceanfront view was incredible. I really don't think there was a room with a bad view at the Ritz from what I could tell.   It was overcast and cool on Tuesday when we arrived but thankfully that didn't last long.

The suite had a huge balcony that came in handy every morning. We would sit out there and drink our coffee while the kids ran around and played until we went to breakfast.

We spent most of our days going back and forth from the beach to the pool and back again.  Both the boys loved the beach, sand, and the ocean which was such a relief.  Matthew was only 8 months when we took him to the beach last summer so we weren't sure if he was going to love it or hate it,  so thankfully it worked out.  We ate lunch and dinner every day at the outdoor restaurant, Caribe Bar and Grill.  The boys were hit and miss on naps, especially Miller who had serious FOMO and did not want to sleep ever, so he usually ended up crashing at lunch or dinner time in one of our laps.

I could have lived on chips, salsa, guac, and Don Julio margaritas everyday.

The kids had us up at 6am so we were lucky enough to catch the sunrise every morning.

We attempted to get a cute family photo a few times but it was tough.  In the evenings it was so, so windy on the beach that it was pretty much impossible to look cute and get a good picture.  Plus trying to get a stranger to take your picture as you wrangle two toddlers can be a lot so this is the best we could do.

This was our first time to Cancun but I don't think it will be our last!  We didn't end up leaving our resort.  We didn't need to and we just didn't know if we had it in us to wrangle two toddlers out to explore since you can't really do many activities with small kids.

The trip was exactly what I needed to help recharge me and get through these winter doldrums.  We've decided we're going to try to do a trip like this every winter.   I was admittedly a little nervous that we wouldn't have as much fun with the kids there with us but I was wrong.   They were so good the whole time and really adjusted to whatever we wanted them to do.  We had very few tantrums or meltdowns,  I guess the sunny salt air put them in better spirits too.

I highly suggest if possible to escape to a tropical getaway in the middle of winter if you can.  It's just good for the soul to relax and feel the sun on your skin for a few days.  Even if it's just a long weekend away.

Have you been to Cancun?  Do you escape to warm weather in the middle of winter?
