Recent Purchase Reviews

Sorry for the radio silence!  Between colds, house problems (like squirrels in the attic and a leaking washing machine), busy schedules, and Kyle traveling (for the 6th week in a row) I haven't had much time to blog.

I have been doing some shopping so I thought I would share some of my recent hits and misses.  I don't know about you but I love to hear a good real life review of a product.

The Hits:

This tunic is exactly what I was looking for! Lightweight, long enough for leggings, inexpensive, comfortable and adorable on! If you haven't purchased it yet get one now! It's only $14 and if they have a sale even cheaper!!

Another winner! I still haven't tried the one from the retail store but this one was only $25 so unless the other one magically makes me look 10lbs skinnier I'm probably keeping this one ;)  I got both the white with navy stripe and the black with ivory stripe but I think I'll only be keeping the black one.  It's oversized but not too boxy and lays really well. The sleeves are a great length and the turtleneck is loose enough that it's flattering without being a cowl neck.

These shoes are perfection! I'm considering getting them in the black and deep forest because I love them that much.  The heel is the perfect height for me so that I'm not only not too tall but I'm also not in pain after an hour of wearing them.

This style mini skirt from J.Crew and J.Crew Factory has been one of my favorites for years! When I saw this plaid one on clearance with an extra 30% off I knew I had to grab it. I managed to get it for $30 and it will be perfect for the holidays! There might be some matching family photos coming to your instagram later this year ;)

The Misses:

First off let me just say these shoes are absolutely gorgeous and I almost kept them but I just couldn't do it. The heel was way to high for me and the cut or something on the shoe made me walk weird in them. You know that awkward heel walk you sometimes do,  I couldn't stop doing that in these so I had to send them back.   If you can pull off an almost 4in heel- buy these because they are gorgeous and make your legs look  awesome.

I found that the sherpa lining on this vest just added bulk to me and didn't look very flattering. When I took the sherpa lining out the vest was huge. For the record I'm 5'9 and I got a small so it's a pretty oversized fit. I think an XS would be way too small for me with the sherpa lining.  I was disappointed because it sounded like it would be really cute and it has all good reviews.

I wanted to love this one because I thought it would be easy to dress up or down but the cut of it is so weird. The arm holes were really small and the shirt was almost too over sized and baggy. I tried to size up to the medium to see if that would fix the small arm hole problem but it didn't at all and the medium made me look about 10lbs heavier. Almost like it was a maternity top.  Disappointing for sure.

Loft Fall Flutter Top
Another one I wanted to love but I found it too big/boxy and too short on me. I have a long torso and it just hit me in the wrong spot and made my top half look wide.

So there you have it! I just did a bit more online shopping so I'm waiting for those items to arrive and fingers crossed they work.  Have you done any fall shopping? Found any pieces you can't live without?

Thoughts for Thursday: My Favorite Drug Store Beauty Products

I think all of us have our drugstore beauty products that we can't live without.  I use a combination of drug store and department store products but I have some drug store products that prove to be tried and true that I keep coming back to.

Here are my favorites:

Drugstore Favorites

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer- this is my go-to in the summer. It's lightweight and gives you the perfect amount of tint and coverage for hot days at the pool or beach.

Elf Studio Concealer- I just randomly picked this up at Target the other day and I love it. My circles are big and dark and this does a great job covering them up without being too heavy.

Elf Bronzer- my sister hooked me on this bronzer this summer and I think it's my new go-to. It gives the perfect amount of color without looking like I'm trying too hard to be tan. More of  a sun kissed glow.

Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque- I know a lot of people love this but I swear by this mask and even use it for spot treatment when I have a breakout.  For $3.99 this cannot be beat!

Loreal Colour Riche Fairest Nude- Another summer favorite I love love love this color and it's perfect (especially in the summer) for giving your lips the  right amount of color without being too much.

Tweezerman Tweezers- Best tweezers ever. Hands down.

Yes to Tomatoes Daily Cleanser- I just started using this line of products because my skin has been horrible over the past few months. I love that they are all natural and after only a few weeks I can already see a big difference in my  skin.

Maybelline Lash Stiletto and Maybelline Lash Sensational- I have tried hundreds of mascaras and I always always come back to Maybelline. I don't know what it is but they are the only ones that work for me.  I use a lengthening and a thickening and the two above are my current favorites.

Loreal Sublime Glow- Best self tanning lotion ever!! I swear by this stuff and use it all winter long. It's the best gradual tanning lotion out there that gives me the perfect  amount of color without looking orange or fake. Bonus- it smells wonderful!

Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover- I have yet to find another drug store eye makeup remover that can even come close to this one. If I can't have my Lancome then this is the next best thing.

Essie Nailpolish and Opi Nailpolish- the fact that I can get some of my favorite colors in Target sometimes makes the trip that much more exciting!

What are some of your favorite drug store beauty items?

Wednesday Wishlist

You all we have had the most perfect fall weather over the past several days and it has been glorious!! It's also made me  realize that I'm in desperate need of some fall clothes. I've rounded up my wishlist for this week. A little practical and a splurge here and here...

This sweater has my name all over it. Loose, stripes, and elbow patches. Sold

Love BB Dakota dresses and this shift looks like the perfect addition to my closet. Love the navy but the teal and pink are gorgeous too.

This blouse is a total splurge but would be so cute with skinny jeans and booties this winter

My sister sold me on this tunic and I have two headed my way that I got for $11 each.  I'm hoping they are as cute on me as I want them to be!

I love the hunter green but I think I need this shirt in every color since it's the perfect fall staple. It can be dressed up or down

I've seen a  few people post about the J.Crew version of this but I ordered the one from Factory yesterday for only $25 so I'm hoping it lives up to the hype!!  I will keep you posted.

This shirt just screams comfort to me. I'm hoping  to add it to my closet for sure.

Can we talk about these booties?!?! I looooove them. The style, the color, the heel size.  This is dream  bootie this season

Clare V Foldover Clutch

So I'm pretty sure I rave about these every month but the blush color would be a perfect addition to my closet.

What's on your wish list this fall?

Nordstrom, Halloween and other Weekend Things

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend. We snuck out for a date night Friday and then had a BBQ with friends on Saturday and my parents over last night for dinner.  A perfect way to spend a perfect fall weekend!  The weather has been absolutely amazing around  here and I'm trying to enjoy every second of it.

I was lucky enough to sneak out of the house on Sunday for a little solo shopping trip to Nordstrom.  I had to return a dress and couldn't resist browsing while I was there.  I'm trying really hard to only buy things I know I will wear all the time when I stumbled upon this sweater.

The pictures do not do it justice at all- it looks so much better in person! It is a nice soft (not itchy) over sized cardigan that will be perfect with leggings or skinny jeans.  It's also long enough to cover my backside without out being too big, if that makes sense, which is hard to find sometimes. They also had a gray color I loved by didn't have it in my size in store.

BP Skater Sunglasses
While browsing I found these sunglasses and had to have them.  As I've said 100 times with small kids I prefer to have cheap sunglasses right now and these are great wayfarer knock offs. At only $12 it's a win win!

Our Nordstrom just recently started carrying the Topshop line in store and I fell in love with this vest. I still  can't decide if I can pull off the faux fur vest but I love it.

Kyle picked up a new red wine the other day and we're totally hooked.  It's pretty cheap but delicious and doesn't taste cheap at all which is a must in my book if I'm spending under $10.  If you're looking for a good inexpensive red give this one a try.

So I'm a little behind but I'm thinking of doing a firefighter and dalmatian for Halloween for the boys this year. I figure this might be the last year Miller let's me pick his costume so I better pick something cute :)
I love these costumes from Pottery Barn kids but do not love the price tags so I'm the hunt for some cheaper options and or possibly making my own costumes.

Here is my inspriation picture...
How cute is that above with the wagon turned  into a firetruck!!?? I'm pretty sure that is what we're going to do.  The cul de sac next to us apparently has a big Halloween party every year so we're so excited to see if it lives up the hype!

I'm picking up some paint samples today for the powder room and will keep you posted on what we decide!

Happy Monday Friends!

Thoughts for Thursday: Powder Room Before

First I have to give a huge CONGRATULATIONS to my friend and co-host Annie and her family on the birth of their daughter Madelyn!!  She is absolutely precious and I hope they're adjusting to their new family of four.

Now that we've been in our house for a month I'm itching to start some projects! Never mind the fact that I haven't even finished unpacking and organizing some rooms, I want to start prettying up this space.  All major projects are being held off until 2016 so I'm starting small and realistic.

The powder room.

While this isn't the most exciting place to decorate it is one of the spaces that most guests see when the visit so I want it to look good.

Here it is in it's current state:

Sorry for the awful iphone pics but I'm hoping that will make the final product look that much better ;)  All the major elements and hardware are staying for now. While it isn't my favorite it's in good condition so it works for now.  I'm hoping to paint the walls and cabinets and then add some new towels and art work.  I really want to wallpaper in here but I'm going to hold off on that until we renovate it. So for now it's just paint.   I haven't finalized any colors yet because I'm all over the place!  Once I pull my mood board together I will share it with you all.  Hoping to get started on it this weekend or next week.

Anyone have any good small space colors they love?

Wedding Weekend in Charlottesville, VA

Over Labor Day weekend Kyle and I packed up and headed south for Charlottesville, VA. I was lucky enough to be a bridesmaid for one of my oldest and dearest friends Danielle. I've actually known Danielle's family since before she was born since our parents live across the street from each other in their first grown up neighborhood. Danielle and her sister Lauren have been like sisters to me and Priscilla and her parents like a second set of parents. We are so lucky to have them in our lives and I'm so happy we got to celebrate with them this weekend.

This was our first trip to Charlottesville but definitely not our last! Between the cute historic town and gorgeous vineyards it did not disappoint.

When we arrived on Saturday and we were quickly swept away onto a bus to start our day. Our first stop was Veritas Vineyard and Winery for the rehearsal and a wine tasting. The venue was absolutely beautiful!  I also think Veritas Rose might be my new go-to! I didn't get a lot of photos of Veritas since we were moving all around learning the ropes for the wedding day.

Our next stop was King Family Vineyards.  We were given a private tasting and then we got to explore the grounds.  It was absolutely beautiful here. The views of the Blue Ridge Mountains were breath taking.

We then headed to The Local for a cocktail hour, rehearsal dinner, and post dinner drinks/soiree.  The food was amazing at The Local and I don't think it was just because I'd had about 8 glasses of wine already...

No detail was left untouched this weekend! Each table was lined with the most beautiful floral arrangements and candles. Every one got their own stemless wine glass with the bride and grooms monogram and wedding date.

And  because it was a kid free weekend we had to end our night at the hotel bar with some drinks... I did not partake in the shots though.

Sunday morning we woke up early and headed to The Nook for breakfast.  It was right on the promenade and was the perfect spot to fill us up before a day of wedding festivities!

We then headed to Vertias to spend the day getting beautiful! The weather was absolutely perfect, it was the perfect temperature with a slight breeze in the air.

I've decided I want professional hair and make up everyday.

Bridal party selfie!

Could this view have been anymore beautiful?!

Gorgeous bride and groom!

A Donut Truck!! With possibly the best donuts ever. I was in heaven and some how only ate 2 of them.

It was such an amazing weekend!! I would love to go back and do it all again. We had such a good time and  really enjoyed our time away.
