On My Bookshelf: April & May 2018 Reads

Happy June! I seriously cannot believe it's June already. 2018 is just flying by on me, but I'm happy summer is almost here.

I am finally getting back into the groove with reading and since you all gave me so many good suggestions I wanted to try and get back to sharing what I'm reading with everyone.  I get most of my book recommendations from friends and fellow bloggers so I love seeing people's reviews of books they have read.

Here is what I read during the end of April and through May.

Slightly South of Simple  by Kristy Woodson Harvey- My rating- 4 stars
This was a cute easy summer beach read.  I really enjoyed seeing the story through two characters points of views and getting to know this family better through their stories.  The story is based around Ansley the main character and her three daughters who all come back to stay with her one summer as they deal with some personal problems in their lives. This was my first time reading a book by Kristy Woodson Harvey, who I have heard a lot about through the blogging world, and I think she's a great author.  She does a wonderful job developing the characters and getting you to fall into the scenery and lifestyle of the south.

The Secret to Southern Charm by Kristy Woodsone Harvey- My rating- 3 stars
This one was a sequel to the one above it and it enjoyed it but didn't love it as much as the first.  I don't know why but I didn't love these character point of views as much as the first one. I also felt this plot was a little bit heavier and maybe I was just in the mood for something lighter ;) I think I might be in the minority on this one because judging by Goodreads people seemed to like this one more! I believe the Peachtree Bluff series will be a trilogy with one more book coming and I'm very excited to read the next one.  If you read the first one though, you need to read this one to help finish up some parts of the story.

The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine- My rating- 5 stars!
This book was SO GOOD.  I seriously read it in one day, which never happens to me anymore! I feel like I haven't read a good page turner in a long time so this one was a nice surprise.  I did think the book started off a little slow but I was intrigued enough to keep reading and once I got into it I couldn't put it down because I had to see what would happen next. I thought it had really good twists and turns that I didn't see coming at all, which I loved.  If you're looking for a great book this summer I highly recommend this one.

The Royal We by Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan- My rating- 3 stars
I actually really, really liked this book.  It was clearly written as William and Kate fan fiction but it was fun to read during the Megan Markle & Harry wedding and get a little glimpse into the supposed life of a royal and non-royal.  My only complaint is that this book is way too long.  I seriously thought it was over about 60% into it, only to realize I still had almost half a book to go.  I felt like the author just kept adding stuff to cause more drama that was completely unnecessary and made the story fall flat. If it had ended earlier I would have probably given it 5 stars but since it dragged on longer than necessary I only give it three.

A Nantucket Wedding by Nancy Thayer- My rating- 4 stars
This was my first book by Nancy Thayer and I was pleasantly surprised! I love books based in Nantucket and Elin Hilderbrand is my go-to for Nantucket beach reads so it's nice to find another author who is similar.  I would definitely call this a fun easy beach read and it was fun to see the story set against the Nantucket backdrop. I'm excited to read more of her books and see if they're as good as this one.

What's on your bookshelf this summer?  Have you read anything you just couldn't put down?
Any suggestions for what I should read next?
