Miller's Nautical Big Boy Room Plan

I've been meaning to share this plan for a few weeks now and I'm finally getting around to it today.  Miller's big boy room re-do has been a long time coming!  When we moved into this house two years ago Miller had just turned two and had just moved from his crib to a toddler bed.  We didn't plan to keep him in the toddler bed long but he ended up loving it so we didn't make any changes.  Shortly after turning three and right before we moved out for our first floor renovation we upgraded him to a twin bed hoping it would help with his still consistent sleep issues.  Long story short, it didn't.

When we moved back into our house in April I decided that for his 4th birthday Miller needed a complete room makeover.  The poor kid had been living with a half put together room since we moved in and it was time to get the room completed.

So here is the inspiration board I put together.  We have already ordered all of his furniture and some of the bedding.  We still need mirror, curtains, and decor.  Miller is really into dinosaurs and sharks so I decided to stick with his ongoing nautical theme from his nursery but incorporate sharks into it, to keep him happy.

Here is what Miller's room currently looks like right when you walk into it.  I can't even believe I'm showing you these because it looks so bad right now. We never re-hung his curtains after we moved back from our rental townhouse and I didn't hang many things back up on the wall either.   Pretty much everything you see in these pictures below is going out of this room.

Ignore the random trampoline in the corner, that finally moved to the basement

Here it is from the other side of the room:

The white dresser was his changing table but it was just becoming a catch all for clean laundry and I don't need the storage so that is going.

Then here is looking from the wall where is bed is:

I want to try to keep his one year old portrait in the room somewhere, but it may end up moving to a blank wall in our room.

The navy blue dresser was my grandmother's and I painted it when I was pregnant with Miller. It was a true labor of love, as it needed like 100 coats of paint, but unfortunately it can't stay in his room.  The drawers are so old and constantly get so stuck that Miller can't even open them.  Half the time I have a hard time too.   We're trying to encourage independence with dressing himself and putting clothes away but it's impossible when he can't even use his own dresser. I'm so sad to see it go from his room but I know it a good decision in the long run :(

We decided that any furniture we purchased we wanted to last him until he moved out for college.  I fell in love with the Jameson bedroom set from RH baby and child and knew it would be perfect to fit with the navy blue and red accents I wanted.  The nautical looking mirror is also from there.   The curtains, sheets, and striped duvet are all from Pottery Barn Kids.  The monogrammed sham is too but I haven't decided if I want those or a big monogrammed lumbar pillow.    We also ordered him a bookcase where I will store his books, toys, and more little decor knickknacks.
Jameson Bedroom Set in Antiqued Natural: RH Baby & Child
Shark Sheets: Pottery Barn Kids
Navy Blackout curtains: Pottery Barn Kids
Shark Wooden Wall Art: Target
Wood Oars: Target
Striped Duvet Cover: Pottery Barn Kids
Monogrammed Shams: Pottery Barn Kids
Red Table Lamp:  Target

So there you have it!  I'm hoping to have the room completed before we head to the beach in two weeks but we'll see.  It's been so fun working on it and having Miller see the progress and get excited.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Try On Review and My In-stock Favorites

TGIF Friends! Today is the day that the Nordstrom Anniversary sale opens to the public, otherwise known as those without the Nordstrom credit card, can finally shop the sale! It's such a good sale and one I look forward to every year to stock up on basics and fall & winter staples.

Below I decided to share with you all what I've purchased from the sale and what I thought about each piece.  I also included the two videos from my instastories- they're not fancy or anything but they might give you a better idea of how everything fits.

Love, love, love these booties!  They fit true to size and look adorable with cropped jeans. Which you can see in my video below.   I think these fit TTS and the taupe color is even better in real life.

I like this cardigan but I wouldn't say I love it.  The color is great and the material is soft but it has pockets that aren't sown down and they seem to flop around and lay weird.  I just think I would be readjusting the pockets constantly to not make my hips look huge.

I would call this a must have from the sale!! Of course it looks like it's almost completely sold out :(  I'm really hoping they are able to restock it because the price is so good and it's the perfect not too heavy pull over for fall and winter.  I'm wearing a Medium in this which is what I usually wear in Patagonia.

This is the perfect tee for now with shorts or jeans and for layering under cardigans in the fall and winter! I picked it up in the navy but also love the black and heather gray.  I'm usually a small in Lush but decided to go with a medium and I'm so glad I did because it fits perfectly!

Another complete hit with this outfit!! The booties are the Hinge booties from above and this t-shirt is so much better in person than I thought it would be!  It's the perfect length for someone tall, the sleeves were long enough and it dips down in the back perfectly to cover your backside if you want.   I went with a size medium I this and it fits perfectly, so I would say TTS.
I actually bought these AG Raw Hem Jeans in the spring and I love them! They're some of the best jeans I own and the raw hem detail just adds a bit extra.   I'm usually a size 28 in AG.

Now here are my two try on videos- again they're just uploaded from my Instastories so they're nothing fancy but might help in making decisions for buying and sizing!

Now I know that a lot of stuff has sold out,  so this morning I rounded up my favorites that are still in stock. There is so much good stuff left, so don't get discouraged!

Row One:  one // two // three // four
Row Two:  one // two // three // four
Row Three: one // two // three // four
Row Four: one // two // three // four
Row Five:  one // two // three // four // five
Row Six: one // two
Row Seven:  one // two // three // four

Did you shop the sale yet?  Are you one of those that waits all year for it like me?

Current Obsession: Summer Stripes

If you've been reading this blog long enough then you know I love stripes.  They pretty much take up my 90% of my closet.  There is just something so simple and classic about a good striped dress or top.

When I saw this dress at Tuckernuck I knew it had to come home with me and would be the perfect addition to my summer stripe wardrobe. The simple blue and white stripe with the ruffle bottom, was just calling my name. Tuckernuck is one of my favorite places to shop.  They have such a great collection of classic preppy pieces that I love (not sponsored at all, just sharing my love of them with you!)

This is still my favorite summer clutch that I purchased last year! I get so many compliments every time I use it.

I couldn't get over the ruffle at the bottom and adorable v dipped back!

Outfit Details Here:

Are you a stripe person like me, or do you tend to stay away from them?  I know people love them or hate them!

I rounded up some more of my favorite summer stripes below, whether it's a top, dress or pjs I would take them all:

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: Early Access

The day has officially arrived, it's blogger Christmas in July, otherwise known as the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!  I know that everyone and their mother is blowing up this sale so I promise to keep my posts to a minimum but as much as you want to hate, this sale is just too good to pass up! I've personally been shopping this sale since before it was online and you had to arrive in store at 7am to get the good stuff!

Today I'm rounding up my favorites from the sale starting with clothes and then below I did accessories and shoes.  I did make a small purchase this morning but I think I have a few more items I might need to add to my cart!

1) Halogen Button Back Ruffle Hem Dress  - how adorable is the ruffle hem and back buttons on this dress?! I passed up a super cute on on Tuckernuck last year so I think this one might need to come home with me as a fall staple dress
2) Chelsea 28 Bell Sleeve Poplin Top - I looooooove this one. For some reason I am obsessed with white this year and this bell sleeve look. While this is so impractical for my life right now I do think it would be fun for girls night out.
3)BP Lightweight Rib stitch Cardigan - In my opinion you can never have too many long oversized cardigans to wear with leggings in the fall and winter.
4) Hinge Button Front Dress- This is such a fun transition fall dress that can easily be worn with sandals or knee high boots or dressed up or down.   I passed on it this morning when I was shopping but I'm regretting my decision now
5) Lush Roll Tab Woven Shirt- I have this shirt from last sale and it's another staple piece that is perfect for fall! Easy to dress up or down
6) Vince Camuto Stretch Crepe Shift Dress- off the shoulder and pink, how can anyone say no to that?!
7) Lush Raw Edge Side Split Tee- I ordered this one and I'm excited to see how it fits.  I think it's perfect for wearing now or layering under cardigans in the fall.
8) Leith Easy Circle Cardigan- I also ordered this cardigan in pink adobe, it's a color I definitely don't have in my closet but think will be nice in the dead of winter when I'm over wearing black and gray every other day
9) AG Legging Raw Hem Jeans- I own these jeans and they're amazing!! A very flattering fit and so comfortable.
10) Articles of Society Mya Jean- Another pair of jeans I own, but I plan to pick up a second pair. These are hands down the best jeans under $100, but with the sale they're only $38!  I get so many compliments every time I wear them.
11) Rag & Bone Raw Hem High Waisted Jeans- I love my Rag and Bone the skinny jeans I've had forever, but they're about to rip a hole in the knee, so I'm thinking of adding these to my fall collection.
12) Zella High Waist Live in Legging- THE BEST LEGGINGS EVER. IF YOU DON'T OWN THEM, BUY THEM NOW.

1) Vince Camuto Ruedi Leather Tote- Such an adorable handbag for right now or fall.  I always love a good hobo
2) Sole Society Mikayla Faux Leather Suede Tote- SS does such a good job of having really affordable good looking bags. I like that they look expensive and designer but you don't have to break the bank for them.
3) Skagen Anita Leather Strap Watch- a perfect fall watch!  Lately I've been loving all the leather strap ones I own since they stay on my wrist and don't flop around like my metal ones
4) Baublebar Mini Metallic Piñata Earrings- one of my favorite earring styles in a fun fall metallic style!
5) Tory Burch Frida Leather Satchel- Every year I eye these bags but every year I pass over it because I just can't justify the price but I love this blush color and the fact that it's cross body. Which is my favorite style these days.
6) Marc Jacobs 54mm Polarized Sunglasses- loving these slight cat eye style sunglasses
7) Kate Spade Lenna Tassel Sneaker- I need these sneaks to pair with my oversized cardigans and legging this fall.  How adorable are the tassels?
8) Sonic Parker 50mm Sunglasses- Another adorable pair of sunglasses that I might need before our beach trip in August
9) Tory Burch Perfume- my favorite perfume that I've been wearing for the past 3 years, since it came out.  I have a ton of allergies and this is one of the rare perfumes that don't bother my nose at all
10) Tory Burch Adeline Boot- these are a must on my list this year!! I pass them by every year but I'm officially bootless right now so I had to snag these before they sold out.
11) Kendra Scott Elle Filigree Drop Earrings- I love this style of earring but I love the that it's just the gold filigree
12) Toms Majorica Bootie- this is another bootie style I passed up last winter but can't stop thinking about.  I just love the perforated detail with the peep toe
13) Sam Edelman Tia Ankle Strap Heels- love, love, love these heels and think they would be a great addition to my fall/winter heel collection.

Did you shop the sale yet, or waiting for public access?  What are our favorites?

Weekend Recap

Happy Monday Friends! I hope you all had a great weekend.  Ours was another activity filled one, which seems to be our norm these days.

On Friday I took the kids, with the help of my dad, to see Cars 3.  It was such a cute movie and the boys did so well!  Miller doesn't sit still well so I purposely waited until he turned four to take him to a movie, Matthew on the other hand is a total tv/movie zombie so I knew he would sit through it just fine.  They both did get antsy after an hour or so but I blame the 20 minutes worth of previews, which I find ridiculous for a kids movie.  I think next time we know not to show up until 15 minutes after the start time.

I've been wearing this Old Navy off the shoulder top a lot this summer (I also have it in white) and while I love it I find it rides up on my shoulders so much.  I asked what you all thought of it up on the shoulders on instastories (then forgot to save my stories) and most of you said you liked it up on the shoulder too and you had the same problem as me keeping it down.  I own quite a few off the shoulder tops and this is the only one I've really struggled to keep down.  So next time I plan to wear it up on my shoulder.

On Saturday night Kyle and I headed into Baltimore to meet up with some friends for the night.  We went to a new place near Harbor East and Fells Point called  the Sandlot and it was so much fun! It's basically a big "beach" with a bar and restaurant and games serving all locally sourced products, which was pretty cool.  The food was so much better than I expected it to be and the atmosphere was so much fun!  I thought the crowd might be really young but it was totally mixed, people even had kids and dogs there so if you've been thinking of going, I totally recommend it!

Grown up Jenga

I wore my favorite blue off the shoulder dress, which can be easily dressed up or down.  My color is sold out :( but I love it in the faded denim color, or the bright green or yellow which are on sale for $42!

I'm so excited because this week we're doing a huge transition to the boys rooms!  Miller is getting all new furniture for his big boy room and Matthew is going to be moving from a toddler bed to a twin bed (thanks to Miller's hand me downs). I plan to share full details tomorrow but here is a little sneak peek to Miller's furniture since a few pieces started arriving over the weekend.

Finally, if you've been living under a rock, the  Nordstrom Anniversary sale starts on Thursday July 13th for card holders and then July 21st for everyone else! This is one of my most favorite sales every year! I know every blogger says that, but it really is that good, trust me. I usually stock up on a couple staples and I can't wait to see the new fall offerings.  I will be sharing all my favorites on Thursday!

I saw this posted on Facebook yesterday and I couldn't help but laugh, because it's so true!

Thoughts for Thursday: Holiday Weekend Recap

Did yesterday feel like a Monday to anyone else??  I swear I need at least one extra day to recover after a long holiday weekend or vacation!

Our long weekend started last Friday night when we met up with friends at their neighborhood beach.   It's times like these that I love living so close to the water.

If you look closely you can see my fearless babies in their green puddle jumpers just swimming out in the Severn River with all the big kids.

Then Saturday morning we were up bright and early for Miller's Dino Dig 4th Birthday! I promise to share a more detailed post next week but just wanted to share a few pictures today.  It was such a fun time and Miller had so much fun being the center of attention!

On Sunday we spent the morning at my parents pool and then headed out to dinner at a local restaurant Lures to celebrate my brother in law's birthday.

On Monday we decided to play tourist in Washington, DC.  See Kyle and I thought since most of the people we know in the DC area were at the beach it would be empty, well joke was on us because it turns out the rest of America was vacationing in DC for the 4th of July holiday!  While the crowds were not the norm for us, we still had a blast taking the kids to the Museum of Natural History, taking them to pizza at Ella's Wood Fire Pizza, our favorite pre-kids pizza place in DC,  showing them the mall and surrouding monuments, and then introducing them around Kyle's office.

On the 4th of July, Kyle golfed early, so I took the kids to our little town parade with some friends.  They had a blast, despite how hot it was, and loved seeing the floats and cars go by.  After the morning at the parade we ended the day with a a BBQ at my parents house.

Cover up// Bikini top// Bikini bottom (sold out)// Sandals// Handbag// Sunglasses// Earrings (sold out)

It was a busy weekend, but so much fun!! The kids really did enjoy every minute of it despite not really napping or sleeping much.   Thankfully they made up for it today by sleeping in until 7:30am!! Which if you know my kids is late!
